Seen it in Pusan, hilarious! any other Denmark film?

I Saw this movie in Pusan(Busan) International Film Festival (S.Korea) ! It was my first time Denish movie, and It was HILARIOUS! humor, satire, spoof, and more.. There was also GV(Guest Visit) time, and who I could see was Tomas Villum Jensen - the director of this film! He was so gentle and also quite funny.. he acted like Claus Volter in movie... Ah, Every audience couldn't help laughing.

I want to spend more time with Denmark film.. any recommendation?

Although I have not seen "Sprængfarlig Bombe" I will assume it is of similar molde as the following:

"I Kina Spiser de Hunde"
"Blinkende Lygter"

Danish movies are more than that, so try and look up the following directors:

Lars von Trier ("Kingdom", "Breaking the Waves", "Dogville" etc)
Lone Scherfig (espcially "Italiensk for Begyndere")
Susanne Bier ("Den Eneste Ene", "Efter Bryllupet"
Christoffer Boe

If you want so see more, do a search on the actors involved in danish movies and see what else they have done.

Enjoy - there are some great moments to be found in danish movies (as well as a lot of not so great..)

you need to see every movie written by Anders Thomas Jensen... he is a genius

There´s also the "PUSHER" trilogy; crime/gangs/drugs with a sicko humour twist. Highly recommandable. Also; the very best Danish film ever ( in my ópinion) " BABETTE´S FEAST". Enjoy!

Bleeder and Rene Hjerter

The Boogeyman is real... and you've found him!

I know I'm writing this 2 years on, but I recommend you see any films starring Nikolaj Lie Kaas. I've seen quite a lot of Danish movies (we get them on our `ethnic' TV channel here is Australia), and this guy is pure genius - I could watch him smoke a cigarette and be amazed. He's a real talent.

I am not a lunatic. I have the psychiatric report to prove it.

ennor, I'm another huge fan of Nikolaj here in Australia. I've now seen him in 6 films (+ 1 ep of Unit One) and he has impressed in everything he does. I reckon he's close to being my favourite actor at the moment. Part of me hopes he never gets "discovered" by hollywood, I love watching him in quality Danish films. Speaking of, I've not yet seen a crap Danish film. Is there such a thing or am I just choosing wisely? ;-)

reply

I also have never seen a crap Danish film. Either they just don't make them, or else they (wisely) keep them to themselves!!

I also loved Unit One, and was so sad when it finished. Also loved Charlotte Fich in Unit One. Recently saw her again on SBS in - I think - an episode of Kurt Wallander - another addictive detective series.

And back to Nikolaj - did you see him in `Flickering Lights'? Hilarious! A must-see film!!

I am not a lunatic. I have the psychiatric report to prove it.

reply

Yeah, I too was sad to see the end of Unit One and especially Ingrid Dahl. I've recently discovered Ornen [The Eagle], though not enjoying it as much as Unit One yet.

Aside from NLK's hilarious role as the temperamental director in Clash Of Egos, I've seen him in Brothers, Green Butchers, Open Hearts, Flickering Lights, Adam's Apples. Next one I really want to see is Reconstruction.

Other (non-Nikolaj) Danish films I especially enjoyed were After The Wedding, Heaven's Heart, Festen, Breaking The Waves, The Kingdom (not a movie but awesome nonetheless!).

Hehe... I am actually from Denmark, and yes, there are bad danish films :P
But not that many actually. Most danish movies are from "average" to "great".

And yes, Nikolaj Lie Kaas is a great actor. You can put him in any role and he'll play it to perfection!

Would also look for Mads Mikkelsen films. (or maybe even some films with his brother Lars Mikkelsen ;P)

Danish movies, I would recommend:

Comedy:
Blinkende Lygter
Adams Æbler
De grønne slagtere
I Kina spiser de hunde
Gamle mænd i nye biler (follows "I Kina spiser de hunde")
Fukssvansen
Blå mænd
Terkel i Knibe (the first fully animated danish film)

Drama/action/thriller:
Drengene fra Sankt Petri (Older movie, but still very enjoyable)
Elsker dig for evigt
Pusher
Pusher II
Pusher 3
Bleeder
En Kort En Lang (don't watch it if you're homofobic :P)
Den Eneste ene
Efter brylluppet
Nordkraft (Very recommendable)
Kongekabale
Drømmen
Italiensk for begyndere
Brødre
Rene hjerter

I could continue writing down movies all night :P
There are also a few good danish horror films. ("Mørkeleg" & "Midsommer" are quite enjoyable)

I hope this little list helps ;)
