Why the bad rating?

Honestly, this and Rocket Science were my favorite films at Sundance. Very funny and well made.

While I did not see Rocket Science I was able to see the premiere of On the Road With Judas at the festival and not only was it my favorite of the festival but it is easily one of the best films I have seen at the festival since I've been attending and I've been going for the past 4 years.

With that said, however, I feel that most audiences are turned off by the fact that this film forces people to think and actually work to piece together the multiple story lines. It's a shame that people are so turned off by films such as these that the films end up usually fading away unapreciated.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think this film is definitely a piece of work. I've seen it twice and once my mind was able to get around it, I realized it's one of my favorite films. It's more clever than quirky, but quirky it is and lots of folks are calling it pretentious (which it is). I think this is definitely a polarizing film and apparently the majority of people are sitting on the south pole with this one. Haters. Haha. But yeah, I love it.

it's not pretentious. it's not pretending anything in a fake or disingenuous way. it's actually refreshingly honest.

but I don't care that I was perplexed by it's story line. some films do turn me off if I don't understand them, like Inception. but this film is such a pleasure to watch and is constantly showing me things and constantly surprising me and constantly moving forward in interesting ways and is always original and enjoyable and entertaining, so I loved it.

your post title I say every single day about films on this supposed respected and integrity rich movie website. to say this is a 5.4 out of 10 star film is like saying we don't need water to survive. that's how wrong it is. this film is deserving of at least 7.5 out of 10 stars. this is such an ingenious film, filed with creativity, wit, artisticness, invention, originality, and ambition. it makes 90% of every other movie seem mundane, formulaic, ordinary, common, lazy, boring, monotonous, and without energy, wit, or purpose.
