Horrid Beyond Words...

I'm sorry. I grew up on "Annie Hall" and "My Dinner With Andre." This film was simply too taciturn and much too painfully un-funny for me to bear. I suppose that on some level it is an homage to the physical comedy of silent films stars like Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton. Me, I'm a Marx Brothers man. I like the snappy dialog. So, the overarching silence combined with the leaden pacing and the Bergmanian bleakness of the entire mise-en-scène left me with no choice but to bail at around the thirty minute mark. And, mind you, I adore French and Belgian/French cinema.
