I'm gonna rape you

i have no idea why, but i found this line sooo funny, especially with the way Simon Pegg delivers it

out of all the things i've lost i miss my mind the least

reply

Oh no I thought it was awful! What a gross thing to say!!!

reply

I agree that generally it is an AWFUL thing to say, just in that situation and with Pegg's delivery it kinda worked imo.

early on in the film, my gal decided I was just like Pegg's character-/
We both laughed hysterically when Pegg said "Im going to rape you" because I have said that to my gal in reality.
It was FUNNY.

Hilarious.

Born a rebel
Died a hero
Remembered a legend

What a great line!

Of course it wasn't the most tasteful thing to say, but Freeman stepping into the shot defuses any awkwardness.

Comedy gold!

And another great one...

"Are you or are you not F'ing a lumberjack called Randy?"

I just finished watching the DVD here in America and was not very impressed with this movie. The beginning dragged on a bit until you realized that the main character was having these dreams all the time involving Penelope Cruz. It seemed to shuffle around a little too much and I think Danny DeVito's character could have been involved more than he was. I am also very disappointed that my granddaughter's name was turned all around in the credits even though she had a very small part in the beginning of the movie. She was the young girl who got upset because Danny DeVito's character had yelled at her in the dance studio and her teacher had to chew him out for that. She called him a meaney as she left with her dance instructor. My granddaughter's correct name is Skye Deva Bennett and she was named Deva Bennett Skye in the credits. I think Jake Paltrow needs to get some more experience under his belt before he directs a big hit.

I loved this line, and the following by Gary. Saying hes not going to rape you. I definatley had a good laugh.

reply

Yeah, that was really funny. Because it was almost literally the most inappropriate thing to say, it almost took a second to register, therefore making the moment that it did all the funnier. It was like the verbal equivalent of when Simon Pegg picked up the chair and looked like he was going to assault her with it.

I thought the dramatic aspects of the film were good, but that whole scene was so hilarious that I couldn't help but wish the film's general tone had been more comedic.

One of the funnier lines Ive heard in a long time. I suspect that if it were anybody else delivering that line, it would've fell flat.

reply

It was hilarious! And just how the ex-wife isn't the least bit affected.

I wouldn't advise trying to explain to anyone why you found the line funny. My sister - not amused.

"Something is rather amuck..."

reply

It was the funniest line in the movie! I don't know why some people find it offensive. How is it any different to someone saying "I'm gonna kill you"?

reply

If you don't know why that's offensive then no amount of explanation will enlighten you. But perhaps spare a thought for all the victims of rape out there who wouldn't find this threat such the laughing matter that you clearly do.

Havent seen the film yet - but I love dreamlogic films (ERaserhead, Vanilla Sky, Eyes Wide Shut, various European films, even that Jim Carrey one) and so will check this out.
I get the impression the line could only only be palatable in context : out of context it sounds bad.
But being a fan of, say, Woody Allen's "Play it again, Sam", which has a similar line in a way, I admit that even something that horrendous can be funny. In the appropriate context, I hasten to add....
