Just watched part 1

Well I thought it wasn't that bad. Some of the actors looked like the original hockey players, especially Ken Dryden. I guess I'll have to watch part 2 on Monday to see if Canada will win the series.

When Kim Bauer lost her virginity, Jack Bauer found it and put it back.

This blowed. Canadian TV sucks. Miracle was way better, I am Canadian by the way.

i like the original broadasting by foster hewitt and some of the features of the past.
it is though a lot less professional looking than Miracle.

I enjoyed part 1 myself. It was good, maybe not great, but I'll judge it better after seeing part 2. Nice use of the stock footage too.

I just finished writing a final paper on how Canada's documentary past influenced the shooting style of many of its features and it was nice to be able to recognize some of that (namely the constantly moving camera, the laid-back, almost improvised acting-style) in this movie.

Just as a general question: how did others find the style of the film? I know some have mentioned that it looked "a lot less professional " than Miracle, which even though I don't wholly agree, I would be interested in a casual discussion.

Anybody else think they're gonna run out of songs by the Guess Who to use about halfway into Part 2?

The movie was shot in a documentary style - as Alan Eagleson says in the beginning, "Oh, there are cameras here..." I've read an article or two where teh director told his cameramen that if they went in and out of frame or focus, that was OK, since that's how documentaries were filmed back in '72. And while I was one of the few people I know who enjoyed "Miracle", I actually preferred the documentary style in "Canada Russia '72". It lent it a more historical feel. Plus, Barrie Dunn, the producer, also does some fine work on Trailer Park Boys, also shot in documentary style. I guess the theory was "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Worked for me.

I did question some of the song choices. I mean, yeah, they probably only had a few 8-tracks in the dressing rooms and I like the Guess Who, so that didn't bug me. And I've had "No Sugar Tonight' in my head all day. But why play "Signs" when Espo is marching away all dejected at the end?

This movie being filmed in documentary style gives it the real effect. I didnt know it was till the opening scenes. In most docs. sometimes the camera moves too fast as crew tries too hard to make that point to the viewers. In the opening scenes I noticed the cameras movement and was a little concerned but it slowed a bit and was comfortable to watch.
That been said I enjoyed it very much of course because of the story line.
I was very impressed with the cast and the resemblance to the 72 players.
The acting was great even the Ruskies,...lol
I was so caught up in the movie and the story, that I did not notice the "GUESS WHO,..one of my all time favorites too. Randy, Tim and Berton.
I look forward to tonight as I KNOW it will be exiting.
