Is there any other way to get points to upgrade your character skills without spending/trading millions worth of techbits for 1pt?

I don't think so, dude...BUT...you can get 100,000 tech bits to spend on the upgrades. Go to the Buy Items menu and go up up up down right right, when you hear like a "woosh" sound and you can't move any direction--you got the 100,000 tech bits.
PS You cannot use the analog/joy stick--you have to use the "cross" shape symbol of directional buttons on the controller.
