WHERE THE HELL IS KURTIS?!?

I am tired of this! First, there is no Gambit, Nightcrawler, Toad, Sabretooth and Deathstryke in X3, then there is no Kurtis in TR: Legend??!!

Spoilers of the X-Men films!!!!!!!!

I'm aware that Deathstryke died, but, Toad & Sabretooth didn't they weren't in the other X-Men films and why isn't Kurtis in Legend?? A Team is just what TR needs, imagine it, Lara & Kurtis with help from Zip. That's one hell of a team.

Why didn't they do that?

Because Eidos are under the impression Angel of Darkness never existed. They want nothing to do with the story or Kurtis.

They only care about us once were dead

reply

They could bring him back in the new game. People seemed to hate Angel of Darkness but they liked Kurtis as a character.

I would want him to be an unlockable character like Amanda was in this game.

And if they could make him cool enough they could give him his own game one day.

reply

I agree with you!! I was sooo looking forward to having my girlie xmen moment in the sun when gambit arrived on screen.. but no....seriously, lara and kurtis, whoo.... good stuff..... :D

Relax man, they are probably making a game about Kurtis himself! That is, if he was such welcomed.

Where is that kurtis fellow, i was hoping for lara and him to get it on ;) yeah getting rid of characters is just.... how to put it with out swearing???

reply

it'd be cool to use his glaive thingy in the future tomb raider games... if he will be in them.

*Spoilers* I guess.

I was under the impression that Kurtis wasn't a real person, only one of the secret society members using magic to imitate him to fool Lara. Because when you kill that Eckhardt at the end and take his glove in the Lab he turns into all of the characters he'd been portraying, didn't he?

Crap, I haven't played the game in ages.

Crystal Dynamics erased everything from AoD and started over kind of. There will be no Kurtis. I got the general impression that he wasn't liked anyway. Core had originally planned to make an individual game for Kurtis, but all that was scrapped once AoD sucked so bad.

No, it would be an interesting twist! But I'm not the best storyline follower so...

Kurtis was a real person. Karel imitated somewhere earlier in the game. If you remember, Lara went looking for Kurtis at the end. Kurtis and Karel were in the same room before Kurtis went to battle Boaz. So yeah. It would've been completely badass to see Kurtis in this one. Could you imagine the ways this could've went?

xKirstyx, I'm not over obssessed, I just thought that Tomb Raider would be the only franchise to keep their characters. Check out Die Hard for instance, where's Holly at in DHWAV? That's like making a Constantine film, without Papa Midnite or a Terminator film, without the Terminator. I'm not obsessed, I just merely hate the fact that characters just disappear nowhere to be found, and some of them pop up out of nowhere, just look at the list, Jean Liev, Kurtis, Father Patrick, Carvier, Anaya, Sahib, Gunderson, the Bald Guy in Chronicles. What would you do if there was a Tomb Raider without Lara, now, that would be crazy.

Well for a start, he wasn't a MAJOR part of the game so I don't know why you are comparing it to being like Terminator without Terminator. Also, well... He died.

LOL, this post and topic is extremely old now but yeah, Kirsty, in AoD he was a major part in the story, not necessarily the TR franchise but this game in particular. Also, he didn't die, only he controls his disk, when Lara picks it up, it points her in the direction where he fought Boaz, she smiles and walks into the darkness indicating the story would go on from there but Eidos didn't do anymore. I'm not obsessed at all, i just wanted to see where the story would go from there. I was pissed back then LOL because Core wasn't involved and they were forgetting AoD as a whole, changing Lara's history a bit too. It's cool if you didn't like the Kurtis character, you're not the only one. That kinda reminded me of the Resident Evil games where you have partners throughout and you're able to play both.

I was under that same impression as well, but then I knew that Kurtis was a real person, because how could that person-imitating character be at one place and Kurtis at another place at the same time, right?

Besides: Kurtis is too interesting to be nothing more than just an impression. I believe that the guy who made the impressions was trying to poison Lara's mind. To MAKE her believe that the imitated people didn't really exist.

Also: after Lara Croft kills this imitating bad guy, she goes back to the place where she had left Kurtis behind to fight that huge insect-monster and when she picks up one of his tools, it begins to move (indicating that he is still alive).

IMHO: Kurtis is dead. He died when Lara Croft approached him at the very end of TRAOD.

Bye for now

After Kurtis is stabbed by that giant mosquito-beast and Lara Croft (after having taken care of all bad guys in her own special way) she goes back to the place where she had last left Kurtis. She finds his boomerang-thingy and when she picks it up, it starts to move a little bit (indicating that the man is still alive). The last thing we see is a camera-shot from behind watching how Lara Croft slowly walks and fades away into the darkness of that room ....... so "Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness" has an open ending and it's basically up to the fans to decide what will occur right now.

IMHO: Lara Croft approaches Kurtis and sees how mortally wounded he is (being stabbed and impaled by a very sharp item through his spine) ... they don't say a single word, but just look at each other. She knows that Kurtis is beyond saving and he looks at her (with a few tears in his eyes) and before he passes away, he smiles ... indicating that he had more fun in his life the past few hours than ever before! Lara Croft returns his smile and Kurtis ultimately dies in peace.

At least: THAT'S how I see things ........... until a Tomb Raider game with Lara Croft or a spin-off Tomb Raider game with Kurtis tells otherwise. :-D

Bye for now

Cool ideaa, Mediaman1988 & Kenvandenbussche-2. Great stuff. But, if he has all these powers like in the awesome ass scene in the Louvre Galleries, he could heal himself, couldn't he? Maybe? Maybe not? It didn't help his father.

reply

If I'm not mistaken, he was stabbed in the back by Christina Boaz. He's dead, people.

reply

Since Angel of Darkness is technically a scrapped storyline the idea and character of kurtis may well return in future Tomb Raider games. For example they can reimagine Kurtis and have his character as a future team member or enemy.

reply

There was always a chance for Jurtis to return i think in tr: legend II they should have a mysterious man helping lara in the search for her mother , the persons been following lara from all of the newspaper clippings and her research , he watches her from behind bushes E.T.C then at the end of the game kurtis breaks int ocroft mannor while laras asleep the game then ends with kurtis saying ' Did you miss me? ' what do we all think?

reply

It's a nice thought mediaman, but I really doubt there is a chance he could return in the next game. Legend is just so far away from Angel of Darkness; no references, nothing. It's like a whole new world.
The makers have clearly erased AOD, basically pretending it never happened. And with the new Crystal Dynamics and.. whatever they do, that's probably making the space between AOD and Legend even more huge.

although when playing AoD, I kinda liked the story between them. But I prefer the way things are now with Tomb Raider...so I also am pretending AoD never existed lol

reply

Yeah, good point. I almost forgot about this post, haha. But I agree, looking back, Crystal Dynamics was trying to erase AoD from everyone's memory. AOD felt more Tomb Raider-like than Legend, it was more visceral and had more of a feel of a Tomb Raider game complete with the hard puzzles.
