Silly me... I thought it'd be pacing & language.

"This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's out there."

I suppose it's a sad sign of our times: heaven forbid any production is all Caucasian nowadays, even if it's historically accurate to have it that way!

reply

What's wrong with historical accuracy? Why do Americans have to embrace this political correctness crap?

We don't all embrace it, thank goodness. It just seems that way because the loudest, most obnoxious people do. (And some of the ones with money...)

Tell it to all the white men who have played Othello.

The issue has ZERO to do with political correctness. The race of the actors really should not enter into who gets chosen for a role at all, not one iota. Their ability to peform and speak the text in a way that brings it to life is really all that matters. Shakespeare was not at all concerned with 'reality' (chiming clocks in Caesar's day??), why are you? Who cares? James Earl Jones's Lear is one of the best performances of the role ever.

Should non-white actors never be allowed to play some of the greatest roles in English theater?!? That's completely stooopid on the face of it. You do know that all the ladies' roles were played by boys back in Shakespeare's time, right? Because of narrow-minded jacka$$es like you who forbade woman to appear on the stage.

Get over your bigotry and enjoy the show, morons.

What's next? Changing genders? Shakespearette anyone?
