My thoughts on Prince of Persia. (Spoilers)

Prince of Persia is one of my favorite game trilogies of all time. Each game has its strengths and weaknesses. However, in terms of story and character it all makes sense.

In Sands of time we have a character who is a bit innocent and arrogant and wants his prize. He ends up releasing the sands of time and causing the destruction of his Kingdom. He kills his father and now has to embark on a journey undo what he has done. And through his journey he meets the love of his life Farah. He may have his doubts from time to time about her, but he knows he loves her. But in the process of returning the sands he witnesses the death of his one true love. The prince decides that he must spite the Vizier and undoes what he has done. In the end he prevents the Vizier from betraying Farah and her people by killing him. This was a story of growth for the prince, and in the end he gives the dagger of time back to her, however he still has her amulet which just so happen to give him time powers.

Then in Warrior Within, we fast forward 7 years later. *beep* has happened to the Prince. He has been running away from a Demigod for the last 7 years. Because he released the Sands and should not have been allowed to go back in time the Demigod, aka: Mr. Dahaka, is chasing his ass. Now I want to ask you what the hell this might do to a person. They are under constant stress and never have a moments rest for seven years. I think this will turn anyone into an *beep* who wouldn't give a damn about anyone but themselves. People seem to have trouble with this point. This totally explains the character change. Now if you remember in The Two Thrones we had the good prince and the dark prince. Well this is where his dark side came from. It is his darker side that we see is prominent in Warrior Within. So he goes and when he finally meets the Empress he finds someone much like himself, trying to escape their own fate and with the good ending, he falls in love with her and takes her back to Babylon after defeating the Dahaka. But by the end of the game he goes back to being that nice prince from The Sands of Time. And the dark figure with the Red Eyes was meant to be a possible future where the Dark Prince corrupted by the Sands had taken over and was an evil ruler of Persia. Granted their may be a few loop holes in the game, but the way I explain it is when he put on the mask he entered a slightly different timeline where his phantom self was not killed rather his other self was killed so that takes care of that problem.

Now we have The Two Thrones where the Prince returns home and sees that his home land of Babylon is in ruins. He goes and becomes partly corrupted by the sands. The Empress of Time gets killed, and thereby releases the Sands of Time. But now the Vizier never died because the Prince had never released the Sands because they were never created. How he remembered everything is going back to the parallel universe idea where he altered the timeline but remembers everything but everything is different. The king went back to India where they found these artifacts but no sands. Then the vizier seemed to know that the Prince was going to come home because he read the writings where the Prince and the Empress of time had changed their fates from when he went to visit the Island of time. So then he kills the Empress, and then turns himself into a super being. Now the Prince has to fight the Vizier but he is not the main enemy, the main enemy is the Princes battle between his old self, from Sands of Time and his hardened self from Warrior Within, with the Vizier being the common goal to kill both for different reasons. One wants revenge on his Kingdom while the other wants absolute power. This is the reason why the third one is so powerful at times especially the ending when he battles the dark prince inside of his mind. But while the Empress is dead, he finds his original love, Farah and manages to reconnect to her. I mean yes sometimes I have issues with the time traveling effect, and it could have used a little bit of polish but they main character of the Prince goes on an amazing journey of self discovery during these games. And really it is more about the characters than anything else.

That's a fantastic explanation for everyone who's played the series, and for anyone confused by the reboot. However, you left out the Forgotten Sands, which takes place between Sot and Ww, mainly due to it having not come out when you posted your view. I won't spoil the story in case people haven't played it, but suffice to say it contributes to the angry, darker Prince we see in Ww.
