Wait... so when is it spelled SOLDIER and when is it spelled Soldier? Is there really a difference whether there's caps or no caps? This has been annoying me for a while...

There's a difference between 'soldier' and 'SOLDIER'. 'Soldier' is just a common term referring to anyone military-affiliated. 'SOLDIER' is the elite corps of combat specialists created/employed by Shinra that have received the Jenova/Mako treatment that make them unique to any other human being on Gaia. A character can be a Shinra soldier (like any member of the Shinra Army) or a SOLDIER (a member of Shinra's elite combat force - like Genesis, Angeal, Sephiroth, Zack, Kunsel, Luxiere...).

my take on it is that SOLDIER is the elite group, hence the intimidating caps abuse of it. ;)
