Anyone else agree.......?

im a huge final fantasy fan and have played all the games, everyone says how good VII is and i'll admit i enjoyed the game but never thought it was the RPG Catalyst that evryone says it is but after playing Crisis Core its made me appreciate VII even more (this happen to anyone else), although i felt well sorry for Zack at the end and Clouds Mental state even though i knew it was coming (obv cos of VII), im also pleased how it wasnt all about Sephiroth, pleasant change.

FF crisis core was a really well done game but idk...alot of ppl would disagree with me probably but i really miss the classic turn based action, all this kingdom hearts inspired *beep* is really putting a damper in the overall experience, but crisis core definetly lacked the depth FF7 had, and in my opinion the story of that game is only rivaled by metal gear solid titles (i've played alot of videogames, trust me on that one). Honestly though, crisis core is fun to play through but it'll never hold a special place in my heart. I started playing RPG video games probably around the summer of 1999 or 2000 (FF9 just came out) and i remember being at a friends house and it just inspired me to get it for myself, but only being 9 years old at the time, i accidentally picked up FF7 and even at that young age that game made an impact on me that'll last my whole life with videogames, anything that has final fantasy VII slapped on it is good enough for me. I think mostly why i didn't like crisis core as much is because of this new era of final fantasy protagonists. I grew up with Cloud, Zidane, Squall, and Ramza and ever since FF10 came out i started losing faith in story elements SEVERLY, i could never ever take the characters seriously i dunno if it was the voice actor, translations, or how the story was written but ever since then final fantasy has had this really sh*tty undertone of "giddyness" with characters, i'd even go so far as to call them all pussies. The day they bring back more mature characters with more mature stories is the day that final fantasy games will truely relive their TRUE former glory which is why i'm pretty excited for XIII and Versus. Zack did mature more than any other character since FF9 however so i give square-enix props for that one (seriously, i dunno wtf they were trying to pull with tidus and vaan). Anyway I think FF7 is so high on every RPG fans list because of the time it came out, absolutely phenominal story, and how it's sole effort spawned what we see today. Without final fantasy 7 there would be no final fantasy, hell, square would've been out of the business back then if it didn't exist. There's a reason why FF7 and FF8 are the widest accepted best out of the series, they had a certain magic to them that i've yet to see in another Square (probably because of that stupid Enix merger) title. But hey, this could be my opinion because of the impact it made on me at a young age.

I kinda agree with you, i much prefer the angsty Clouds and Squalls to the upbeat Tidus's and, well, damn annoying Vaans. However, it was different with Zack. Zack felt like much more of a 'real' character than Cloud or Squall ever would. Plus his upbeat and cheerful disposition just made his death all the more tragic.
Where i'd disagree is the fight system. Yeh, the turn based thing is more traditional etc, but the real-time battles adds a more satisfying feel imo. FF12, whilst story-wise kinda sucked for me, i thought the gameplay was amazing, and totally carried the game. Which makes it the polar opposite to FF10- which i thought had a great story and characters, but the gameplay was grating and filled with too many boss battles, and you only get freedom to roam right at the end.
Crisis Core could have got a bit too repetitive if it wasnt for the DMV, which i thought was a brilliant way to add a bit of spice to the battles. Overall i loved Crisis Core, thought it was a brilliant little game that added a lot to the FF7 mythos

I've actually accepted FF8 as my all time fave, but I've spent the most time playing the original FF... gotta love picking the characters at the very start!

Personally, i didnt like FF7, it seemed obsessivly overrated... with that said however, i did enjoy FF7:CC and would like to see how FF7 would have turned out if they were to release it today.

And people need to stop hating on FF12's Vaan... to me, he wasnt even the main character! Both Lady Ashe and Balthier felt like more main characters to me, but the game was just told through they perspective of Vaan. Plus, Vaan kicked ass on the DS's FF12: Revenant Wings! :P
