my 2 cents

I saw Chasing 3000 at Tribeca, and I think it's a great film. It's a "feel good" story that works - that is, it doesn't sink to sappy. And it has a lot to offer: the growth in the relationship between the two brothers, the baseball backdrop, the road trip, a great cast. One of the leads (Rory's character) is handicapped, but its cool that that's not really the focus. It has good tension as the brothers bounce from one predicament to another. Rory and Trevor are believable as brothers. "Production values" are good, the music is good. M. Emment Walsh's character is a hoot. Teenagers can relate to the kids. And Boomers will relate to the 70's music and "feel".

I was never a big baseball fan, but that's really not required to appreciate this film. In fact, learning a little about Roberto Clemente and gaining a small sense of the awe and respect for him as a larger than life personality that permeates this film is just one of the unexpected benefits that awaits those viewers that don't happen to already be baseball fanatics.

A pleasant surprise! Chasing 3000 get's a big "thumbs up" from me.

I envy you, Americans, in a good way. I hope they will release it on DVD soon. It's going to be my graduation present :-)

Such a shame it didn't get a wide release. In fact if I hadn't read a short DVD review about it in a magazine I would never have known about this movie. I love how it captures the unifying magic of loving a sport. I don't watch baseball, but I understood it. Reminded me very much of Field of Dreams, which is probably my favourite sports movie of all time.

I only do it with superheroes.

If you are a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Roberto Clemente or just a baseball fan in general, SEE THIS MOVIE! I'm going to watch it again on Netflix, especially during this summer of awesome Pirate baseball. The ending scenes filmed at Heinz Field are beautiful, I'm choking up right now just thinking about them. It's too bad this lovely little film isn't better known, it's become a favorite of mine.

Let's go Bucs! Make Roberto proud!

I thought it was a fun movie. But I did really get a little sappy at times. The officer who cried at the beginning, for example. The ending with the book. Etc

And some of the events were quite improbable, like the guy in the barn who gave them a car or the bikers who gave them a left to Tennessee.

But again, a good movie.
