U.S. release?

Hi,

Does anyone know if/when this will be released in the U.S.? Or when it will be available on region 1 DVD? I love Yamada Yoji's work and I'm really excited about Bushi no Ichibun. Thanks!

Me too. I've pre-ordered my copy from YesAsia.com. Can't wait!
Oh, I'm not sure about the region, though. I got myself region-free equipment for just this sort of thing. Hope you can get hold of it, anyway.

Edit: It arrived yesterday, hooray, I watched it last night. Looking forward to watching it again and again, as I do the other two. I won't say anything else yet, as no-one else on this board seems to have seen it. Getting this region-free gear was the best thing I ever did!

I watched it on the big screen in Bangkok yesterday, the same place Iwatched "The Hidden Blade" some years ago. I will have to track doen the DVD now....what region did it turn out to be ?

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

Lucky dog! I saw The Hidden Blade on the big screen in London, but nobody seems to have screened Bushi no ichibun here.

I have a fond personal memory of the screening of The Hidden Blade. I'd been to a lunchtime engagement in Kensington and I had some time to kill before going to the cinema, so I went to the Oriental galleries of the Victoria & Albert Museum. They had some Japanese swords there, which you can guess I looked at with great interest - and some of these swords had hilt-knives. I hadn't heard of such a thing before, so I was quite intrigued. Then I went to see the film and what do you know, Katagiri uses a hilt-knife. Nice.

Getting back to your question, the DVD is Region 2 but NTSC, which seems to be usual for the Far East. Fine by me!

That is interesting about The Hidden Blade. I liked that film somewhat better. I am still bothered that I missed Twilight Samurai when it played Bangkok. It opened in an obscure theatre that has since become my favorite. They play a lot of Japanese films such as The Village Album .

I think Region 2 NTSC is only used in Japan, but the rest of Asia is basically Region 3 except for China. S. Korea is Region 3 NTSC, but most other countries are PAL. However, here in Thailand many Region 3 NTSC DVD's are issued. Practically all players sold are multi-region so they do not convert the Korean or Japanese masters to PAL for the versions sold here. Then again quite a few have no code at all.

I've seen "Bushi" on the big screen, too, in my home city, Moscow. It was in theaters here this summer. I loved the film - watched it 2 times in a theater and later bought the Japanese DVD release at Amazon Japan. It is with English subs and the 2d region I think.

I saw The Hidden Blade at the big screen, too some years ago.

The other two movies did have a US dvd release, and whenever I search Love and Honor at Amazon they both pop up. I'm guessing it will be released at some point here in the US.
