Tyler Perry is soooooooooo confusing..........

In Meet The Browns, Cora is Madea and Leroy Browns daughter but in the play "I can do bad all by myself", Cora is not not their child, yet they are all the same characters, she keeps calling Madea byy her name and Leroy Brown by Mr. Brown................Please explain this to me, cause it's pretty confusing trying to keep up.

If you watch Madeas Class Reunion you will understand. Towards the end Madea tells Cora (her daughter) that she was drunk the previous night and recalled getting drunk with Brown back in the day and that she remembered Brown is Coras father. Madeas name is actually MABLE but Madea stands for "Mother Dear" something very commonly used down south. She calls Brown Mr.Brown because thats what she grew up calling him, and she stilll does it even after she finds out that he is her father just because I mean... she is an older woman... would YOU call Brown Daddy? Hahaha. Heck No! Also if you watch meet the Brown's the MOVIE you will see the Aunt ask Cora "whose your mother" and she says "Madea" and the Aunt looks at Brown and says "oooh you NASTY". Hope this helps. Nonetheless enjoy the laughs.

I know this was answered but you just had me recall that when Tyler did these plays his initial idea was not to have had Mr. Brown and Cora father and daughter. But he came up with idea last minute while doing the play Madea's Class Reunion and ran it by the couple and from there we got Meet The Browns and Tamela and David Mann (Cora / Mr. Brown) moved on up.

Oddly if you seen the first set of plays Mr. Brown had a wife and ironically if they did not have her die in Class Reunion that would have been an interesting situation for his wife to learned that he and Madea were together.

And also regarding Cora calling them by their names ~ In this play she actually called Madea mother but later in the other plays they stuck with Madea (perhaps just cuz it was easier on all the actors to remember). Then even when she found out Mr. Brown was her dad he even asked her to refer him as such but she just couldn't allow herself to do so since (as other poster stated) she was an adult and still dealing with him being her dad (basically starting from stratch within a relationship).

It was further revealed in other stories that Mr. Brown is not actually Cora's father and that Madea doesn't actually know who it is if not Brown. Uncle Joe does tell everyone that Mabel is a "ho".

And in the book written by "Madea" she explains the custom of calling a wisened older woman in a community "Madea" as a title of reverence and respect.
