Thomas - Big Spoiler!!!

That was such a great thriller, I was rooting for the guy up until the end when it turns out he's the worst guy of all! Or is he just as evil as all the others? Greedy? I wonder if Wilhelm knew. Or even participated.

If the idea is to stay alive, I'm driving.

reply

That's really left open Lucy.

IMO no, because I'm not sure if he'd wanted an accessory to murder taking over the company.

But it's possible.

reply

Thomas says in the end he wonders if Wilhelm saw the entire clip and wanted to use it against him some day. He must have known at least something or he wouldn't have had the clip in his tresor.

Will Graham: ‘I don’t find you that interesting.’
Hannibal Lecter: ‘You will.’

Wilhelm was definitely complicit in the strangling as was Thomas. They were both in on it. But we never find out the exact circumstances of the tape. Who made it? Why? etc. All we know is that Thomas was annoyed that Wilhelm had kept a copy and he therefore needs to get it back.

I don't think he'd be using it to blackmail Thomas and then show him where he hides it. Do you?

reply

Probably not. He wanted to retire and let Thomas have the company - at least the power. I think he was really a friend and mentor.

Who made the tape?
Not Wilhelm or he would have known Thomas was there. Or did he know?
Not Thomas or we would see the camera in the reflection too.
Morgan himself as Thomas told Louise?

Interesting question. At least we know Thomas is not that innocent guy he seems to be in the beginning. It got suspicious when his cousin arrived and Thomas' skills for escape were pretty impressive for a guy who works in an office.

I agree.

"Who made the tape?" "Morgan himself as Thomas told Louise?"

I don't remember that exchange but if that's true then somehow Wilhelm got a copy. I'm not sure why Morgan would tape himself murdering someone. You'd think it might be too easy to fall into the wrong hands (Wilhelm?)and therefore incriminate himself.

"It got suspicious when his cousin arrived and Thomas' skills for escape were pretty impressive for a guy who works in an office."

Well yes it did because there was a very brief exchange between them that led you to believe they'd done some sort of stuff together back in Denmark.

I wonder why someone would murder/ rape/ [insert a crime] and tape it. But they do in RL!

You're right about that. There are some real crazies around.

I did go back to check however and Thomas doesn't tell Louise that he knows Morgan made it. That doesn't come into their conversation at all.

So I'm giving up on that one. I guess it could have been either one of the three (Thomas, Wilhelm and Morgan) or a combination thereof.

When Thomas tries to get the tape Louise makes him show it to her and he tells her that Morgan is a sick person, that he even films his murder of Battanga. At least I remember it like this.

Will Graham: ‘I don’t find you that interesting.’
Hannibal Lecter: ‘You will.’

reply

Louise is shocked by the murder she sees Morgan commit.

Thomas tries to get her to give him the tape and further tells her that Morgan has a wife and family in Belarus (I think),that she needs to realise she (Louise)is being used like he (Morgan) used us all.

There's no mention of him filming murders.

reply

OK I checked the scene right now and yes there's Thomas telling Louise Morgan is a psychopath, filming himself while murdering Batanga.

Maybe it's the subtitles that differ. My copy is German/ Swedish with subs. Maybe the Swedish dialogue is different, I don't speak Swedish unfortunately. I have to rely on the subs.

Will Graham: ‘I don’t find you that interesting.’
Hannibal Lecter: ‘You will.’

reply

"Maybe it's the subtitles that differ"

Yes I was thinking the same thing earlier.

Mine is Swedish with English sub - titles and unfortunately I don't speak Swedish either.

reply

We need to find someone who speaks Swedish then. I don't like the thought they did a bad job with the subtitles. What they must have, either yours or mine.

Will Graham: ‘I don’t find you that interesting.’
Hannibal Lecter: ‘You will.’

reply

Ha! I don't have any Swedish speakers handy.

You've probably got a better chance where you are Lucy if you are near Germany or in Europe.

I'll try and have a third look again at mine today to see if I've missed anything.

reply

Maybe someone on here will help out. *crossing fingers* Otherwise the problem will have to stay unsolved.

I'm in Germany actually but usually no-one speaks Swedish here. English on the other hand...

Had another look Lucy and he DOES quickly SAY Morgan made the video, as Lucy is threatening him with the gun.

But I have to admit I'm not sure whether he's saying it because he knows it to be true, or he's just saying something because Lucy is sticking the gun in his face.

It's that sort of film I guess. You end up never quite sure what is the reality behind a lot of the situations that arise.

reply

So in the end the subs didn't differ?

I'm not sure whether

Me neither.

Yes the director/ film leaves some things open. I'm not too sure if I like that, haha!
