Donnie's fighting style in this film

Hello All

What do you think Donnie's fighting style was in this film, or what is was based upon? He is obviously using alot of palm strikes so I was wondering whether he was using "Baguazhang" (eight trigram palm) etc, similar to what Jet Li used in "The One":

I have always preferred hand techniques (southern?) over leg techniques (northern?) and I thought the hand techniques of Donnie in this film were spectacular. Of course it wouldn't surprise me if he mixed in Wing Chun, White Crane, Chen style Tai-chi and a few other styles he knows....

Thanks.

the eighteen Dragon Slaying Palm Strikes!!!! (According to the villain, he said that when he was stunned by Dragon's attacks)

LOL.

Its not BaQua, which uses Open Palm and Circular attacks most of the time. this style was probably based on somthing from the comic, but also created specifaically for this movie.

So are there any specific styles out there that primarily use palms?

I thought BaQua (Baguazhang) used Palms and was circular like the good Jet Li and the Bad Jet Li used "Xingyiquan", which was straight and direct with more punches, as displayed in the film??

this is explained in the wikipedia page with links:

I think Donnie just used "really fast slapping" technique in this movie. Some elements of it appears to be Wing Chung-ish, but it definetly doesn't look like Bagua in any way.

Only One more thing to say
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Chiaki Kuriyama is hot."

Hmm, alright cool thanks, pity it's not a style, as i would love to research it on the web or see if there is a book on it, and also try and find a school somewhere that teaches it...oh well.

thanks anyways...

Shin Yi uses straight forward movements with the closed fist... both baqua nad shin yi are variants of tai chi.

I don't think Donnie Yen really used a style in this movie, I think he was just kicking and punching people.

I'm going to rent this, is there any hung gar, or chan quan?

The martial arts in the film are just different kung fu styles, none of them are real styles however. Donnie uses 18 Dragon Slaying palms, Nicholas uses 18 Dragon Slaying kicks, etc. The fast hands is definitely wing chun influenced however Donnie studied Taiji (taichi) from a young age, and as he is the choreographer, is free to try to invent interesting looking screen fighting styles. The 18 Dragon slaying kicks are simply wushu kicks. Most martial arts action stars are fluent in several fighting styles due to the number of choreographers and trainers they work with. It is actually a great misconception that xingyi moves in a line; it moves anywhere it wants, but you train it on a line. It also uses palm strikes, knuckle strikes, foot strikes.
