When was the computer really invented?

This is a British film so we have to give some leeway there, but the apparent claim that the Colossus at Bletchley Park used to break the complex Lorenz ciphers used by the Nazis during WWII was the first computer is more than a bit misleading. In fact in more recent times it has been declared that the computer was not invented by any one person or group, because there were a number of parallel, independent efforts during the 1930s and 1940s to develop digital computers.
