Question..

I have a question.. towards the end of the movie, Mr. Hamilton had shown Jason some video footages of him trying to make money on the streets by selling property plants, taking changes from fountains, etc etc.. I've read in some of the posts on here where people have said that that was how Jason survived his bum phase, but this whole time, I thought that those footages was from when Jason was trying to earn the last $100 he needed since he only earned $1500 from working at Gus's ranch and needed $100 more to pay Alexia and Emily's rent billl.. So can anyone tell me what that footage was really of? If you pay attention, in the first part of the footage, you see Jason wearing the exact same clothes that he was wearing when he left the hospital after handing the money to one of Hamilton's men to pay off the rent bill, that's one of the reasons why I thought what I thought.. Plus, I thought Jason was only a bum for a couple of days, not a month like someone said, but I could be wrong..

Yes, I too thought that he was getting the $100 for the balance of the rent. Remember when he lays out a bunch of small bills and change for Mr. Hamilton.

reply

it was for the last of the rent money

In the book, there is a whole chapter about the gift of laughter. I guess that was their attempt of it.

In the book, he had to find someone, who had it really bad but used jokes and laughter to feel better about it.

The fact, that in the movie, Jason could now laugh about it, showed even more how much he had changed. In the beginning, he would have hated if someone had seen him like that.

Since you read the book, (if you remember) does it explain why Emily and her mom are at Red's funeral at the very beginning of the movie?

Thanks

In the book, they skipthe funeral. It goes from Mr. Hamilton being informed of Red's death to the scene in the conference room with all the family members.

The book is quiet different than the movie in a lot of things. If you enjoyed watching the movie I suggest reading the book. It's a quick read. Every Chapter is a Lesson the grandfather wanted Jason to learn. You should know though, that there was no kidnapping scene in a foreign country. To me, the book seemed more real than the movie.
