Does anyone want to restart the old thread about personal experiences?

I'm sure that everyone remembers the topic "Any weird people knock on your door?" from Internet Movie Database. Are any of you interested in bringing that discussion to this forum? Ranging from amusing to terrifying, those stories are a lot of fun to read.

Was that thread from the The Strangers board or somewhere else?

I was looking around here and saw two threads with a few real scary stories about strange knocks on the door and rural experiences:

https://moviechat.org/tt0482606/The-Strangers/58c8100d2214d80b5cf5cc49/You-dont-really-get-this-movie-unless-youve-lived-somewhere-rural

They're interesting reads. I would like to hear more of them too (might be a good idea to make a thread like this for the General Discussion board too!)

It was on the board for The Strangers. It was called "Any weird people knock on your door?". I remembered the ones that you presented too.

I lived in a tiny studio that was in an old house converted to apartments. Lots of strange things happened there.

One night there was a knock at my door. I was startled because the entry ways were to be kept locked and I wasn't expecting anyone. It was two guys and they asked for a guy named John. Of course, I had no knowledge of this John. They apologized and left. They were pretty stoic and emotionless. I had a strange feeling.

Later, I was told that a John lived there before and had committed suicide.

Apparently, this house was notorious for people committing suicide. One guy had done so while I was still living there.

I did not live there long. Too many spooky things. And, I still wonder where the hell those guys that knocked on my door came from.

Thank you, kaleidoscope0_0. I was glad that this intriguing topic had renewed interest. Your story was a bit disturbing. Since the men who knocked on your door were stoic, was it possible that they had expected John to commit suicide? Maybe your saying that the guy didn't live there anymore was verification that he was dead. That would have made the scenario more frightening, and hopefully I didn't worsen your troubling memory. That studio house was a scary place. At least you were able to get out of it.

You're welcome. :) I like to tell people about that house because I didn't think I would ever experience unexplainable things. I wasn't the only one either. My friend stayed with me for awhile and another couldn't even go in. He said it gave him the creeps.

I haven't a clue what those guys were doing there. I like your theory though.

reply

Thank you. I related to your not expecting strange and inexplicable events. Years ago I had not believed in things of that sort either until I experienced a handful of those. My matters were positive, though, not scary. My acceptance remained very limited, however.

That sounds really scary, I'm glad you didn't stay long at that place.

I never had weird people knocking on my door, but my mother had a pretty terrifying experience a few years ago.

I was born and raised in a small village of a Greek island, I still go there to visit my parents from time to time. There are very few residents, so it's really quiet in winter, however there are a lot of tourists in summer.

About 15 years ago, on a summer evening, my mother was sitting alone on our balcony which is connected to the ground with a stone staircase (almost all houses in the village are built in the same way) and it has a small iron gate at the top of the steps that you have to open to get onto the balcony.

Suddenly, she saw a man coming up the steps. He was a stranger, she'd never seen him before. She asked him if he needed any help (it's common for tourists to get lost because the village has many paths and roads that are confusing to someone who isn't a local) but he gave no answer. He just came towards her and the look on his face scared her. For a moment she froze in shock but then she ran inside the house, slammed the door shut behind her and turned the key which was (fortunately) already in the lock.

She called my father on his cellphone while keeping an eye on the man outside. Until this day, I can't for the life of me understand why she didn't call the police immediately. Later she told me that she panicked and just did the first thing that came in her mind.
The man opened the small gate, got on the balcony and stood in front of our door. He didn't knock on the door, he didn't say anything, he just stood there with an intimidating expression on his face.

By the time my dad got home, the man was gone. My mom was terrified for several days after this. She never saw that man again and after a few weeks summer was over, all tourists left and things went back to normal, but she still gets the creeps whenever she remembers that day.

reply

Oh wow, that is terrifying. I am so glad your mom was okay!

reply

That must have been terror that your mother was never going to recover from, annie302. It was so fortunate that she was not injured. Since the man remained silent, stood still, had not broken in, and never reappeared, he was probably disoriented. He might have just focused on your mother because she happened to be outside. Of course, that knowledge would not have made the event less disturbing or frightening.

reply

You're probably right, he could've been disoriented. Thankfully, she managed to recover from it after a while and even though she thinks about it sometimes, it doesn't affect her anymore.

reply

I'm glad to hear that.

One time I was eight years old and I was playing in my backyard. A man approached me (he probably entered through the side gate) and knelt down to me and asked me if my mom was home. My heart raced but, I knew I had to be strong. I started screaming for my mom and the man ran away; my mom was taking a nap during this time. I told my dad about it when he came home and he contacted the police. I had to give a description of this man to a policeman. To this day, I will never forget what happened. This still haunts me till this day…..

reply

Thank you, andreaahr. It was very fortunate that you were able to immediately scream. Some little ones, especially girls, would have been frozen in terror. You and your parents were probably assuming a potential kidnapping, but since that man did not try to take you even after a bit of time and asked about your mother, I wondered if he was actually a rapist. He could have been hoping to hear that a woman was home and that you would just bring him in to the house. Another reason for my leaning was that a child abductor would have expected his victims to loudly fight, but your yelling scared the intruder out of your yard. You might have saved the essence of your mother's life that afternoon. Nevertheless, I was sorry that you had a traumatic fright.

reply

Thank you. Yes, it is so scary that people have that mentality. I shatter to think what could have happened if I didn’t scream. Thank God I was smart enough to do so….

You're welcome.
