'Because you were home'

I think that line went straight to my bones. Such a small line with a lot of weight to it.

What weight? The weight of purposelessness?

I think it's weighty because the victims and audience members are trying to grasp why the unprovoked terror was being orchestrated. Hearing that line suggests the attackers have no conscious or remorse for such terrible actions. That terrorizing people is just something to do on a Saturday night. I think that is chilling. I studied abnormal psych and forensics for a long time and have felt that the most terrifying thing I've come across in my research and experience is people who can't experience remorse. To not have a conscious or a concept of right and wrong, personally I think that is truly disturbing.

You studied psychology, yet you say to not have a "conscious"??? WOW, you don't even know the bare bones of psychology. The word is CONSCIENCE, NOT conscious. I'm a psychologist dear.

purposelessness?

hahah...

overlylongwordnessness?

It's terrifying because the implication is that there was no reason behind it, and it was totally arbitrary. They picked a house, found there were people there, and went in to kill them.

reply

yes i agree the random act of violence the line suggests sends chills down your spine

I couldn't agree more Katrina. "Because you were home" sounds cold and cunning. Those 3 villains were just plain evil with no conscience, no remorse, nothing at all. What makes this movie so scary is it looks realistic and can happen. The young couple were just very unlucky being at the wrong house while being targeted by cold blooded killers.
