Did Joshua lobotomize himself with the second wire blast? And was it on purpose?
(I thought he would reach behind himself with the wires to get her off. I know he said something, but I didn't catch it.)

Is he totally gone for good, or does he recover from shock and leave the hospital?

What was the point of him doing the first burn on his neck?

If anyone saw the original, did it end the same way? Was he in the mental hospital and was she sitting on his head or clinging to him like in this one?

If the ghosts want to be with the ones they love, when Joshua dies, will he and the ghost now be hanging onto Jane?

You can't lobotomize yourself with electricity. The word means a doctor/surgeon using a scalpel or cutting instrument to separate the frontal lobe from the rest of the brain. It's a precise surgical procedure that you couldn't do to yourself even if you had a scalpel.

You can cause yourself brain damage, but brain damage isn't the same thing as a "lobotomy."

The part of your question about whether it was purposeful is answered in the FAQ section of this movie on IMDB.

My impression is that he was gone for good, but if he was still able to open his meal containers and feed himself, maybe not, because that is a fairly complicated task.

I don't think Ben will want to hang onto Jane. He didn't love her that obsessively, like the ghost did with Ben.

I haven't seen the original, sorry.

In the original he tried jumping out a window, but failed and ended up in the hospital. His wife comes to visit him as well, unlike in this version.

In the original I think she was sitting on his shoulders as opposed to being draped on his back like in this one.
