Apparently if you go to WGBH's website, you can buy a copy of the DVD.

WGBH states that the expected availability will on June 9, 2006. However, Amazon.com states that it will be released on July 11, 2006. The release date on either site could change, but it will be released this summer. Can anyone verify/confirm a solid date one way or the other?

I have the DVD from WGBH. Be warned that it's been edited so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of the American public.

Specifically, initial island scenes with Gerald and some animals have been shortened. The *entire* scene with Gerald and Theo and the turtles has been removed. The naked man's butt has been covered. There may be other edits, but by this time I was somewhat irritated and may have missed them.

I am ashamed to live in a country where people can be seen maimed or killed on TV during prime time but a funny scene involving a couple of mating turtles must be removed from a private DVD release.

Sorry to hear about that, but what specifically needed to be edited?

You mentioned island scenes with Gerald and the animals.
Entire scene with Theo and the turtles.

Why would those scenes be edited? What was edited?

I but the dvd through Amazon.com which will be avaible July 11, and I hope that it's not censored.

"Sorry to hear about that, but what specifically needed to be edited?"

Personally, I don't think anything needed to be edited. Someone obviously disagreed.

The initial scenes of everyone settling in on the island have been rearragned for no obvious reason.

The edit that annoys me the most is about a minute and half long and occurs immediately before Larry's friends arrive. Theo and Gerald are talking at the clothesline - Theo is telling one of the many outrageous stories which defines his character. During the story a pair of mating turtles stumbles by - and they fall over. Theo and Gerald have chuckle and Theo goes on to finish his story.

The scene is harmless. It's deletion is merely indicative of American collective mental illness - a denial that sex exists, is good, natural and fun.

It is worth noting that this is already not a movie for young children. It has guns, swearing, and Gerald dissects a bat - onscreen. One can't make the case that edits were required to make the movie suitable for children.

From an artistic point of view I am unhappy that someone mucked with it. I'm really unhappy that it was censored.
