Why the need for a re-make only 18 years later?

well, i liked the 1987 one, but it was a little slow, and I thought a bit subdued. I think this one does a better job in some ways at conveying the humour of the book. It is different enough from the 1987 version i think to be interesting.
share18 years is not bad for the BBC. Just look at the number of David Copperfield and Great Expectations adaptations they have done over the years.
It's that man again!!
And apparently being made again in 2015 as The Durrells in Corfu. Only ten years this time.
