this part really threw me off, that the woody character, this football jock would also be in drama class. i know thats not so far fetched but nell was the one into shakespere i would have thought it would be the other way around and woody in nell's body would be making a fool out of herself.

It is very possible that the drama class these two were taking was a requirement for graduation. In fact, this could have been a requisite English class, rather than drama class. But yes, I can see what you're saying: It seems unlikely that Woody would be in this type of class.
