Ok so Jose lives in the US and so does his parents and family. How did Jose end up having a strong spanish accent, wheras, his brother, Manny, has a NYC accent?
Did Jose live outside of the US and followed his parents and the rest of his family and that's why he still has a spanish accent?

They lived somewhere else for a while, remember the youngest brother talking about getting cut while diving. I think Jose also played for a Latin American country's national team.

Or Manny's accent could just be a facade. Notice his demeanor when he's running his business, yet when around his brother Jose he softens up. His true self is the softer side...The other is just a facade to make him appear more macho and in control, so the accent could go along with that.

In the beginning of the movie, just as they get in the Cadillac to drive away, when José is practicing on his speech, his manager jokes to him about his English - "Where did you learn English - in Miami?" I thought that the way they joked about it and laughed, perhaps he actually might have learned his English in Miami. Either as an immigrant, or maybe it's just the local accent. And his brother might have worked hard to lose that accent. Also, in the very beginning, José dances in the street with that little girl - Jasmine? - to a mambo, which is a Cuban type of music, which kind of made me think of Cuba. So when they joked about Miami a few minutes later, it fitted in with my thinking "Cuba". (Okay, I know that particular song, Sway/Quién será?, isn't written by a Cuban, it's written by a Mexican, Pablo Beltran Ruiz, but it is still a mambo!)
sharei guess it just about decision people make in life more when they are immigrants. For example, the father, like Manny are from Puerto Rico, an USA state. Even they speak spanish they also have english as a primary language. The father no quiere hablar inglés, aunque lo sabe. Manny speak english with NYC accent, there is where he lives and when he has his bussiness (el restaurante). Remember the scene when he said something like "today we are cubano-mexicano, cubano;libanes, like trying to say that the restaurant is a mix-up; Eduardo, the young brother, also speak a good english, he represent the young generation. The one, of the Dispora who belongs more to the new home but in his life remain all the traditions. But Jose, keep his acento mexicano, he's proud of where he came and also he was part of the latin america team.

Eduardo Verástegui (José) was born and raised in México and just moved to USA some years ago while the rest of the cast are Nuyoricans (except for Angélica Aragón --José's mom-- who is also mexican and lives and works mainly in México).
IMO that's the reason why Eduardo and his mother have a mexican accent unlike his father and brothers who speaks with a nuyorican accent. (Manny Pérez born in Santo Domingo but was raised in NY).
Obviously the director tried to make sense of all this mess. Not always successfully. Would have been a better idea, and way more credible, if at least the 3 brothers had a similar accent.
Actually if you can understand spanish u will notice that José (Verástegui) speaks perfect spanish while his father speaks it with a very thick new yorker accent.
In the real life you would expect the opposite: the father (born in latin-america) speaking better spanish than his son (born and raised in USA).
