Why did José chase Nina after she was fired?

Why did José chase Nina after she was fired? He didn't know she was pregnant until she told him some time after.

It was actually a serious question. I don't think he "liked" her in a romantic sense.

He saw her drop her bear and wanted to return it. Then, being a nice person, he wanted to make sure she was ok after being humiliated and fired by his brother. Since he felt guilty about what he did to Luci and her mother, he didn't want to send another single mother off alone to deal with her own problems. I think he was just too good a person to ignore her in her hour of need.

I think he was motivated by a genuine love, though not romantic love.
