Was I abducted by aliens? Because I am missing five years

In the second to last scene Nina asks him to go to the clinic with her. The next scene there is no indication of any passing of time and the two main characters look exactly the same as they did one minute before, but suddenly the daughter is 5.

I am assuming either aliens abducted me just before the last scene, let five years lapse, then put me back in my living room or aliens abducted the characters in the film right before the last scene then put them back five years later except it was as if only a day had passed.

It's not that uncommon for movies to jump ahead a significant period of time in order to show what happens without showing everything that happened in between. They look the same because 5 years doesn't noticeably change an adult's appearance so it would be silly to try to age them with makeup. So yeah, just a device commonly found in films.

Ha, funny, I thought the same thing- I was like, "wait, what?" but then I took the ending to mean that Jose had adopted Nina's baby and had been raising her on his own as a single father. I also wish the ending was more clear, but maybe it was supposed to be up to the viewer to come to his/her own conclusion? I've read some people saying that they think after Nina returned 5 years later that they all became a family, but the way I took it was that Nina would probably just be visiting from time to time while Jose would remain the full time care giver to the child. I could be wrong, but that was my take on it.
