Animation question

There may be spoilers below sooo.. just be warned.

I've been watching this on IFC for the past few weeks, and the most recent episode seemed to have a drastic shift in both the animation and art style. I think we're about 6 or so episodes into the series, but I'm afraid I don't remember the exact title or episode number.

It's the episode where they first hook up with Shichiroji at that hotel/vacation place.

But anyway, yeah? What happened? Is this a permanent shift in the style or is it a weird one off thing?

Thanks in advance.

Oh believe me its just a weird off thing for that episode. I have all 5 Dvds that have been released in the U.S. so far, and the animation switches back after that episode.

The theme for that episode was supposed to be "relaxation and release," hence why it kind of looked like and acid trip, but I guess it was supposed to have that trippy look.

But yeah as I mentioned earlier, it switches back to the regular animation in episode 7, that animation style is in episode 6 and 6 only.

Ahhh.. that's cool then, I was getting a little worried for a moment.

Thanks!

#1: It's not just episode 6; episode 6 is a "showcase" for one of the animation styles that they quite deliberately used throughout the entire series, sometimes quite skillfully integrated with the dominant style.

#2: Learn to broaden your appreciation for different styles of animation. If you allow yourself to only enjoy the "color within the lines" styles in this series, then you are doing yourself a disservice. Saying that this style is somehow a drop in quality is ridiculous.

When i saw it i instantly knew they were trying a different style, its kinda like that Batman Gotham Knights DVD. Where you had a few episodes that told one story but kept switching different styles. The style in episode six was very much like that in the first episode of Gotham Knights. I loved it when i saw it, i told some of my friends how they changed it and they agree that it was a neat idea.

Netflix listed that episode as #7, The Friend.

I noticed the style change as well. It reminded me of the "lo-fi", comic/exaggerated style of Shin Chan or Aeon Flux. I'm not a huge fan of it compared to the normal style of the series but it was an interesting blip.

I noticed it too all these years after it aired and I got my first viewing. Google led me to this and I thank you and the repliers for clearing this up. I sort of panicked myself, but it is a nice explanation that the style lines up with the theme of the episode.

So.. greetings from the future.
