Taylor's Actual Interest

Am i the only one who believe Taylor was interest in Alex more than it appears. There are signs of his interest all over the start of the movie.

First, he usually sits near him. Telling him you wont find it in there. Find what? Find a place to stay? Find a place in Australia? Find girls? Or find Him?

Than when Taylor says I'm so hungry, i could eat my own arse Alex jumps in a says Lets go halves Taylor doesnt only find this funny. But he looks at him. Actually gives him those eyes. As if in his crazy mind. He thinks Alex is flirting. Or purposing a sexually act. Unintentionally. To this point Taylor did'nt know about his GF.

Than he checks his phone. Which is really weird. But what kind of people check your phone. ??? Not to sound to stereotyped. Girlfriends....

From there first meeting he becomes attached. To Alex.... No one else....

Than when there on the beach. Taylor watches Alex the whole time. He even does cartwheels in front of him. His showing off. His not even interested in Ingrid. Not one bit. His interested in Alex..... Why would he watch him?

Than he gets rid of Ingrid. We dont know how. He just did.

In the tent. All he could hear was sophie. Most guys would have listened to hear. This is a girl orgasm. If you could hear him than it would be weird. But he reacts in jealously. We assume his jealous of Sophie. But what if his jealous of Alex. It makes sense.....

Than in the deleted scenes. The guy that was with the big girl. He approaches him and Taylor attacks him. But in the most sexually passionate way. He pushes him. Saying Dint talk, dont talk, dont talk His face is inches from his lips. He rubs his face with his hands. He lingers on his chest when he leaves. The only thing he says Leave me alone Leave me alone or i'll go though you to get the fat girl? Leave me alone i'm after Alex. Leave me alone (The queer fantasies) OK that's a bit of a stretch. But use you imagination....

Than when Alex collapes on the desert. He walks up to him and strokes his neck and back. Again his passionatly touching him. His comforting him. He trying to take what his.

These are all assumptions and i could be wrong. I know the director changed the script to make it the way he wanted. Do you think maybe the writer wanted to create a homosexual pyhco? That's why the story falls so miserably. He went in is own direction. What could of the ending really been about?

There's a lot to Taylor we dont know. But, am i the only one who sees a lot of under toned gay interest. A lot of my friends who seen this movie felt the say. They said at first they thought Taylor was gay. So did i.

Maybe Taylor sleeping with Sophie was another way of getting back at Alex. His finally revenge. If he couldn't have Alex than no one could.

Although in the final car seen he says stuff like Alex found out about us Maybe this was the directors input. Or maybe cause he was so crazy he did'nt know what he wanted.

Did anyone else notice the gay undertones? Cause they are every where? I wonder what the film would really have been like if they stayed true to the script.......

I agree with the op. I thought that aswell. The way Taylor looks at Alex is like he is lusting after him.

This is a very interesting idea..that I hadnt even considered until now. I just finished watching the movie for the second time and I can totally see the gay undertones.

I think maybe this idea is open to interpretation. It is true that Taylor found Alex first. He was hanging out WITH Alex. He approached him. He didn't know about his girlfriend so he would have no motive at that time to steal her away.

As for the mobile phone thing, I understand what you're getting at. It strikes me as the possessive partner, therefore again hinting at Taylors lust...or love for Alex?

I haven't seen the deleted scene it sounds very interesting, I wonder why it was deleted?? Maybe it was for this reason and it wasn't the direction the director wanted it to go.

I was also thinking of a few other things.

If I remember correctly, in the beginning when Taylor asked Alex if he had a girlfriend, Alex replied with something that to me meant "not really". When you're interested in someone you want to know if they're single right?

This is coming back to your idea that he was acting interested in Sophie to make ALEX jealous. Remember the scene in the motel room. Taylor says to Alex.."you shouldn't treat people the way you do"..."you shouldn't LIE to people", the tone in his voice was that of someone who was hurt or betrayed by a loved one. Maybe he was talking about that fact that Alex never made it clear he had a girlfriend? Maybe Taylor thought because they were "hanging out" this meant Alex was interested?

As I said before I think it's open to inerpretation and people will see it one way or the other. Thanks for your post anyway!

Feel free to reply to my ideas too :D

near the beginning i really thought Taylor was gonna turn out gay
but then when Sophie showed up he seemed more despereate then gay

i think he was really desperate for someone to talk to him cuz he was a deranged serial killer and had no body

either that or he is completly nuts (defineatly a possibility) and saw immediatly that someone like Alex would have a girl friend and he though 'wow, i bet he's dating some hot chick, why dont i hang around with him, become his friend, then simply murder him and run of with his girl who thinks im all innocent and then rape her every day for the rest of her life?"

he did have that really intense stare at alex at the start tho..... weird guy

Wow i honestly didn't see that first time round but you guys have some pretty good theories! You could be right, especially about the director and the way he's pieced the scenes together to try and obliterate the writer's intentions... but not fully managing to do so. I like it!

No doubt, the guy was lovin the todger. His only "interest" in Sophie was to get Alex pissed off, and later, after Alex was put to sleep, to exact further revenge. Good stuff:)

I'm not so sure about the gay undertones, though it is certainly possible. It seemed to me, Taylor like many psychopaths, had no friends, no girlfriend, no one in his life. I mean, he is so obviously creepy, normal people reject him. Or at least they dont get too close. Anyway, people like him usually meet one person and then suffocates them with attention. The psychopath is friendless and empty so he attaches himself to one individual and expects that person's undivided attention. Hence his reason for asking Alex if he had a girlfriend.

OMG thats so freaking true! I thought Taylor was gay when he approached Alex he gave him that look, and it was soo obvious, then later i didnt know what happened and i stopped understanding the story

Can u think about it? a gay killer, it would be more interesting

From the start I also thought Taylor was into Alex, possessive like a crush, and when it was clear Alex was straight and intended to part ways, Taylor basically punished him as much as he could.

But the longer it went on, the less I thought Taylor was motivated by sex. It seemed like his character was truly sociopathic and could have latched on to any slightly lost person who crossed his path, because he's bored. He could have been bisexual, because he didn't need to sleep with Sophie just to prove he was controlling her and Alex was already dead. If he just wanted Sophie out of the picture, he could have launched into a little campaign to piss her off (instead of charming her) or arranged for her to find the photo herself. Taylor seemed to notice her tenderness right away and shift his focus onto her after he realized Alex didn't trust him - whether that was real attraction to Sophie or just him picking a new plaything, I don't know.

But I think no matter what his deal was, eventually he would have killed her too!

Good post. This is what I was trying to say but I didn't articulate it as well.

You do have some interesting points, OP.
I actually also got a homosexual vibe from the way Taylor looked at and interacted with Alex, but that was mostly in the beginning of the movie, I kind of discarded the theory when Sophie came into the picture and it became apparent that he wanted her.

In order for your theory to work, you'd have to ignore the fact that Alex actually caught Taylor checking Sophie out and the fact that he seemed to take every chance he could to spend time alone with her. He was obviously hitting on her a lot, touching her, sucking up to her etc. He drugged Alex so that he'd be knocked out and he'd get time alone with Sophie. Wouldn't it make more sense that he'd drug Sophie?
Wouldn't it also make more sense he'd kill Sophie and try to seduce Alex?

I noticed the way Taylor acted towards Alex, and definitely thought he was romantically interested in him. I mean from the start he was always a little too close to him. Constantly touching him in a flirtacious way. He seemed happy when Alex initially said he didn't have a girlfriend. As if he was gauging him to see is he could make a move.

When he began to act interested in Sophie I was majorly confused. The idea of him doing it to make Alex jealous totally makes sense. In the end I think he killed him out of a jealous rage. Even the scene where he's kissing Sophie it seems innocent. Like he doesn't so much want to sleep with here as wants comforting. Maybe he was in mourning over Alex?

It's all fun and games until someone gets caught. Then it's larceny.
