Am I missing something? IMDB and Comcast both say that this is set in Afghanistan, but I thought they said (in the film) that it's in Chechnya. Actually, they had a little blurb at the bottom of the screen stating that they were flying into the area through North Ossetia, which is very close to Chechnya but nowhere near Afghanistan.

Probably, they just decided that most American viewers have heard of Afghanistan (let's hope so) but very few would know where Chechnya is... If you google it, etc it is between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, on the northern slopes of the Caucasus mountains. It is at approximately the same latitude as southern New England.

I didn't see the film so I can't comment on the story locations, but I can say that Chechnya has been in the news enough over the past 13 or so years that even many of us Americans know where it is. I, for one, don't even have to use Google to know where it is.

I don't think many people know where it is. I personally have been interested in that part of the world for a long time, so, freakishly enough, I actually did know where it is. But I thought maybe some people seeing my post might appreciate the suggestion to google it, etc, for information. Seriously, haven't you ever heard about those surveys that show people can't even locate Iraq on a map?

the original scrtipt was located in afghanistan....then changes were made and have not been updated with imbd

When I saw it it was set in Namibia.
