SPOILERS! Strange Life of Ivan Osokin

Of course Faust and especially Picture of Dorian Grey came to mind when watching this film, but most of all I found the film to bear a strong connection to The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin.
In it, Ivan Osokin, an adult, realizes his life has been a failure in almost every way, and through a sequence of events manages to return to his youth as a young boy, but with all his adult memories intact, so as to have a second chance at his life. But almost immediately, he one way or another manages to repeat the same mistakes, starting with getting expelled from school, until as the years go by he has forgotten about his whole previous adult life experience, and his life has gone down the same exact path it took before. Eventually he is again an adult, realizing his life has been a failure, and I wont say anymore in case anyone decides to read it. It's an excellent book.
