Great film but what the hell?

okay, i didn't read the book and because of the impermeability of the narration. If i recall, one of the scenes with Stanchuleski, Dominique becomes aware of his double and also aware that his double is able to co-opt his body causing Dominique to loose consciousness whereby the double has an affair with the female nazi spy.

Later he is sitting in a chair communicating with his double, wearing a robe, and his double asks him where he would like him to put the roses. My best guess is the double is taking control, going outside and taking a rose, walking back inside, putting the rose where instructed then returning control to dominique.

The rose at the end doesn't make as much sense because its' laura/veronica asking where he would liek the rose. Unless we are to infer that veronica was somehow a creation of dominique, and that double has assumed control of the body which is tremendously bizarre.

These are non-symbolic interpretations though so i could be way off.

Oh yeah the transmigration stuff is suggested when Dominique finds a near replica of his old lost love driving along a mountain road prior to a storm. He immediately recognizes this woman, who could not be his lost love because his lost love is dead, as laura. Later this reincarnated entity , now called veronica, regresses backward through time into other lives moving toward an ancient primal language, an area of intense interest with regards to Dominique's philosophical research.
