Trust me its Bradford! Watch the scene where they are sitting in the Kirkgate Market discussing who hates who, you'll hear reference to manningham, girlington, great horton and little horton, all in Bradford and I should know being born there! So, whilst being filmed in Leeds and a few other places, it's set in Bradford.

Most is shot in leeds - maybe some in Bradford. Most of it is filmed in Beeston and belle isle (where most of the extras are from) The thugs wear leeds shirts. The two towers are at the edge of leeds. I think the mosque was in hyde park, the market is leeds indoor market.

reply

Strange. The TV guide said it was shot in Leeds, the TV announcer said Bradford.

reply

It was shot in both.

The scenes in the streets around the Mosque were shot a stones throw away from where I live (Burley nr. Hyde Park, Leeds).

For Christ sake it's Bradford! The young asian lad deals drugs from Manningham Park and I'm sure in one part of the film it says Manningham pakis hate Girlington pakis and Girlington pakis hate everyone (which, by the way, is true). Take it from the people who live here it's the sh*thole that is Bradford.

Argh, it's Leeds!!!

Perhaps I might be of some assistance!

It was all filmed in Leeds. Beeston mainly, Middleton, Belle Isle, with some of it in Armley (Death Row in the film). The market was Kirkgate, priciest day of the whole shoot!

Now, quite rightly there is a potential difference between where a film is actually shot and where it's supposed to be set. I've made areas of Nottingham pass for Glasgow, areas of London pass for Sheffield etc etc!!

I don't think there was ever a conscious decision to say "this film is supposed to be Bradford", but equally there was no reference in the original script to it being Leeds either! I did look for locations extensively in Bradford as well as in Leeds (and Halifax, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Wakefield). Ultimately, the reason we selected Beeston was that it was where we had the most friends in the community. Penny had previously shot "Tina Goes Shopping" and "Tina takes a Break" in Beeston, so it sort of made sense to complete the loose "trilogy" there too. I did quite like many of the areas of Bradford I saw, intensely cinematic and worthy of more films being made in the area, but I can tell you it really can be very difficult trying to hit the ground running and make a low budget film in an area where you've no real knowledge of the local community, and especially when the content of the film is somewhat controversial. This is evidenced by the "Brick Lane" film being completely unable to film in the real Brick Lane, despite having a budget far larger than that of Mischief Night.

In further defence of the Bradford camp on this thread, what I do know is that much of the research for the film was done in Bradford(!), and the themes within it are valid in many parts of the country visit.

I would say Mischief Night is one of the most incredible projects I've ever worked on. The people we met were absolutely fantastic and I learned absolutely loads!

All the best,
