No chemistry

I've just seen Mirren's and this version in a row and I have to say that this Elizabeth and Robert had no chemistry at all. Irons and Mirren said it all with just one look. In addition, Tom Hardy looks nice for the modern audiences -he reminds me of J.Rys Meyers in "The Tudors"- but he has a too 'modern' look and he's too young for the scenes in his last episode.
On the other hand, I have to congratulate the writter for their historical accuracy (I just can't believe yet what they did in the Cate Blanchett movies, urgh!)

Elizabeth was always indecisive. If you read a biography, you will see that she prevaricated over many major decisions, refusing to give committal answers. It drove her Privy Council to distraction. Oftentimes, she would delay over making decisions for so long that they would be taking without her having officially sanctioned them. She could then deny all knowledge and throw a strop.

She most famously did this over the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots - she dithered over the decision for months before signing the warrant. After it was dispatched, she let out that she'd only signed it for safety's sake and had the poor chap who had carried it for her thrown in the Tower. It's a myth that she was a 'take charge' monarch - in fact, the fact that she delegated the blame for major decisions so often probably helped her survive.
