Brilliant- Another great BBC Drama as always!!!!!!!

i think this film has been potrayed so well and anna marie duffs plays a brilliant Queen Elizabeth and phwoar! Robert Dudley is so hot!!!!! why oh why didnt she marry him. The soundtrack is absolutely fabulous it really sets the scene on the film. I am such a big fan of BBC Dramas, coming from the channel that PRIDE AND PREJUDICE was done and all the others what else can you expect. Congratulations to all the cast and crew for making such a wonderful portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. I hope to see ANNE MARIE DUFF in lots of other projects from now on, loved her in the Magdelene Sisters and love her in this! good on yer!

I certainly think it's as good as - if not better than - Elizabeth R with Glenda Jackson in the 1970s. I thought Elizabeth R was good in its own way, given that they tended to film in studios rather than on location at that time, but - given what we're used to now - I think The Virgin Queen is a great 2005/2006 adaptation.

You wouldn't know a joke if it got up and gave you a haircut - Edmund Blackadder

Brilliant thoroughly enjoyed and fairly accurate (apart from Amy Dudley's death) but those complaining about accuracy are picking at points highly contentious in the first place. Dudley's death being one of them anyway.

no one knows how Amy Dudley died.

I agree totally on what you say about "The Virgin Queen" Anne Marie Duff is a briiliant actor and portrayed Elizabeth excellently. She and the wonderfull Tom Hardy deserve awards for their roles.
Tom blew the whole film away. A rising star with outstandingly good looks ! I don't even usually comment on such things as looks, but he makes me go weak at the knees. BBC please make sure he gets loads more work, so that we can see him on our screens regularly.
The whole film was outstanding, the DVD I puchased is wearing out. Congratulations to all concerned.

For a great movie see Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett. THAT Robert Dudley is REALLY hot. Fantastic movie too!

Robert Dudley in "Elizabeth" was played by Joseph Fiennes. I can see why you think he is REALLY hot, but in comparison to Tom Hardy, Dudley in "The Virgin Queen", he seems rather emasculate to me. No disrespect intended, just my opinion.

Time heals all wounds until you run out of it.

I can't watch the last episode becuase it makes me cry so much, also when Robert dudley dies that is so upsetting... i feel like i just want it to carry on and noone dies. But that is imposssible but 'chance should be a fine thing'

Yeh its pretend but obviously if you see films through that opnion then you won't enjoy anything. The idea of a film is for you to enjoy it as if it is real so you can understand the emotions going on and get into it. Sorry i had to say something as i thought you were quite rude Alan Criketman!

p.s the only time i ever tell myself its not real is on Scary Horror films...

This is by far the best movie or mini-series I have ever seen on the subject of Elizabeth. I'd go so far as to say its the best movie I've seen in tow or three years.

reply

This is OK--- Try "Elizabeth R" (Glenda Jackson, 1971) for a better BBC rendering of Elizabeth's life & reign.

This is the best version I've seen so far. Absolutely beautiful and moving. Duff is exceptional. I love the BBC.

I first watched this last week and I thought it was truly amazing. I became a fan of the Elizabeth era from the Cate Blanchette 2 films which I thought were amazing, a fan of BBC and ITV mini series/films which they make as they have high production quality and I'm a super fan of the very sexy Mr Tom Hardy. I would actually consider this better then the Cate Blanchette Elizabeth films due to the different side it takes to the Queen
This version was more of her personal life as queen with the love affiar/regret of Robert Dudley. I actually thought it was a little sad because I loved the scandal scenes between them both but when his character came to an end :O. I knew exactly what the last episode was going to be about, still great but without Hardys presence it kind of showed but it made most of it up with the regret/flashbacks from the queen of how she wants her old life again

Episode 1 - 7/10
Episode 2 - 9/10
Episode 3 - 9/10
Episode 4 - 8/10

Overall it's a very good mini series which I will place in my Tom Hardy Blu-ray/DVD collection of course :)
