a little much

This show touts itself abut exploring remote tribes, but have you noticed its only the tribes that have naked people in them? And why does every shot have to have a penis in it? If the show is supposed to be educational, take the focus off the "idiginous nudity" and on the culture. Some of the shows even blur out the females but show the men. This seems to put a different value on whether or not to show their genitals. How some of them got a G rating and even PG is beyond me. If you must do the naked tribe tour, show it late at night when kids won't be surfing the channels and don't show the naked stuff in the commercials. I was watching tv with my kid and some of his freinds when a damn commercial came on for the new series with a bunch on men dancing naked in a circle. If the nudity wasn't the point, why was that the only thing in the commercial.

I don't get it... but if it continues too much, I will end up blocking that channel.

Dude, everyone is nude under their clothes. I wouldn't have a problem with kids seeing anything on this show and hadn't even thought about the nudity until you mentioned it. It's just the way people live.
If you're prepared to block a channel and miss such an informative programme just because someone's wang is on show, then more fool you.

reply

you have a problem with that, but not with them showing some of the violence that occurs in the tribes?

How sad. How very, very sad that someone is actually complaining about nudity on Going Tribal. This is exactly how much of the sexualization and perversion that is promulgated in this world happens, *because* people make such a big deal about NON-SEXUAL nudity.

There is a big difference between nudity that is sexual, and nudity that is asexual! The nudity on Going Tribal is NOT sexual; it is natural, not sexual and a wonderful example that elsewhere in the world, the naked human body is not dirty, nasty or cause for alarm.

When you watch regular sitcoms on TV, there is copious sexual innuendo and cleavage aplenty. Nothing is learned on these shows, and there is no reality present. In Going Tribal people/children LEARN something, and they gain an appreciation for how other people live and love, how they survive, what they hold dear, what they celebrate and why.

It is BECAUSE we make such a big deal about nudity, that nudity becomes such a big deal. A good example is spills. Yes, spills. At our house when someone has a spill, we don't get all freaked out and make a big deal, we just get a towel and clean it up. There have been times that kids have come over and accidentally spilled something and they look scared and so upset, but when we just calmly clean it up and say, "No big deal, everyone has accidents" they sigh a big relief and suddenly they don't spill as often. If you MAKE nudity bad, dirty or sexual, then you INFLUENCE children into viewing it that way as well, but if you treat it as no big deal, just a part of life, they treat it the same way.

Watching this show with my children, when nudity cropped up no one said anything, nothing. Finally my youngest son said, "None of the women cover up their breasts, I bet it's because it's so hot to wear a shirt". Then my older son says, "Nobody there even cares, but if you did that here everyone would freak out". So I said, "Yea, I think they might even put them in jail". My oldest son says, "That is so stupid, people here should learn something from them". I agree with him.

How stupid is this remark, "...have you noticed its only the tribes that have naked people in them?" Answer me this, how many tribes do you think DON'T have nudity? Do you think there are just scads of tribes out there that DRESS UP?! This show is VERY informative and interesting, and it has brought the reality of many situations around the world to our consciousness. The series he did on the tribes in southern Africa was very enlightening as to the drought and the very difficult lives they live. I cannot believe that people actually have a problem with a show that shows naked tribal people dancing around a fire.

There was MUCH more in the commercial than NUDITY, but it was a subtle way for the producers in the show to alert the audience that there is nudity in the show. I have watched almost every episode, and I think that it is very revealing about YOU that YOU think the show focuses on tribes that "have naked people in them". Perhaps it is YOU who is focusing on the nudity?!

With all the crap that is on TV, friggin' Baywatch, MTV, CSI, Marry a Millionaire, and on and on, and you're griping about Going Tribal?! I swear, there is always someone who can find something wrong with EVERYTHING! Do us all a favor, please DON'T WATCH THIS SHOW! You might learn something and your kids might become cool and adjusted and compete with my children in the real world. I'd much rather that you create weird little, pollyannic freaks that are marginalized and get no where near my normal kids with their sexualized ideas about tribal nudity. PLEASE BLOCK THE CHANNEL!

After Bladerunner's quite correct tirade there, I would also like to point out that there have been episodes concerning tribes like Inuits, who due to the freezing weather certainly do not walk around naked.
Next to this, I think you are incorrect in saying that all the shots have cocks in, I think most would agree that the filming is tasteful and executed by professional cameramen who have no doubt seen all of it before anyway.
Furthermore, the blurring out of genitals is not done the way it is due to the series or its motives but because of network rules. I think you'll find that they WILL blur out penises, but only if they are erect, and will only blur out women's genitalia if it is shown in such a way that might be considered crude by people such as yourself.

reply

I don't know why people are so touchy (no crude pun intended) about the human body, we all have one, and its in no way offensive unless used sexually, and normally only in this case when young children are involved.

WHAT ARE YOU ALL HIPPIES!!??!?! We're alllll naked underneath our clothes...yeah, thats why we WEAR CLOTHES YOU IDIOT! this show does show a lot of penis. and breasts, and butts, and even vagina. And it wouldnt take away from the learning experience AT ALL if they would blur them out. At all. and if you deny that, then it just means you want to see them. blurs are not destracting, if anything the billions of shots of penis are. I'm a guy so it doesnt bother me, but if i had children...yeah. I mean the show is a click away from Spongebob! And what the hell is this 'only blur if they are erect'? Why in the world would there be an erect penis on this show? The only way they would POSSIBLY have an erection, is if they were having sex. Because god knows nudity doesnt get them excited. Go admit your families into nudist colonies if its so great. Because those freaks are sane and all(sarcasm)! Those kinds of people who think nudity is such a beautiful thing that kids should see it, are probably where the ultimate freaks come from that practice incest and pedofilia. This isnt a matter of mature people who can see nudity without thinking about it, its a matter of ALL the kids that flip their tv's and stop at this because theyre interested. I guarentee to all parents of young boys, that their kids are masturbating to this show when their alone at night. Even if you think, oh theyre too smart and mature for that. No. No boy that is going through puberty and discovering "new things", is too mature to watch naked women on tv and "do things". This show for sure needs censors for the sake of kids. I'm not even some up tight adult, I'm a teenager! And I actually have sense! Unlike some parents on here. Its fine to want your kids to watch educational programs, but come on. To not even want this show to use censors!? thats just rediculous.

This rant really is disgraceful.
You may not be an "up tight adult" but you most certainly a moronic teenager...

The thought sickens me that people are bothered about their children seeing naked bodies.

It's ridiculous. You have been indoctrinated and there is no rational reason to find it offensive. I would be offended if they censored the nudity and would be first to complain. There is nothing wrong with nudity, there never has been and there never will be.

reply

What an odd complaint to make. Bruce films remote tribes who have little if any contact with the outside world, therefore some will inevitably not wear clothes whereas others will. Bruce is there to see how they live and what they do without influencing them in any way. In fact the whole point is to see how they live influences Bruce. An example of this comes in the first episode of the new series where the Mattis tribe’s elders meet with Bruce and his crew in their long house to discuss whether they would allow them to film o not. They were going to say no as previous film crews insisted that they didn’t wear clothes (like they did in the past) for the benefit of their cameras and they were worried that Bruce would do the same to them. Bruce reassured them that this was not what he does and he only wanted to see how they live without any interference from himself or his crew.

where and when does this show come on? I want to see the nudity.
