WORST movie ive seen in a long time!

there was just nothing right about it. normally im pretty patient with movies and try to get involved in the story even if it bores me but this one was just terrible. there was hardly any dialogue and the characters were just boring. movies like this need likeable characters in order to sympathise with them etc. im normally a fan of aaron eckhart but even he couldnt save this movie

I didn't like it either and I usually enjoy a RomCom. Of course, this dud didn't have any laughs, the scenes with the grieving kid were too long and dragged the movie down, I found myself sympathizing with Kate's boss (I would have found a replacement for an employee who was costing me customers, too), and Nick was a smarmy bastard who will probably run off with a waitress and Kate's savings six months from now.

I am usually very easy to please when it comes to chick flick movies. This just drove me up the wall. I had a glimpse of how it must be to have borderline personality disorder-- Considered slitting my wrists to break the monotony! Imagined a nutcase with a chainsaw hacking them all to pieces starting with the bratty kid, egotistical angst ridden Kate and slob of a chef Nick.

Hey, there are worse movies like Gigli(plain stupid), Bug (gross and dumb) and Arlington Road (frustrating and truamatic). This was just a boring waste of time

reply

Y'all suck. This movie was cute. I thought "Transformers" was more boring than this.

reply

I didn't see any bratty kid in this movie. I saw a heartbroken child who developed a close relationship with her aunt after losing her mother in a car accident. No brattiness, in my opinion.

reply

I figured any one would choose the chef guy but I did not understand what was wrong with her good neighbor he was good enough to watch the child but not good enough for a casual drink.

I usually avoid this genre because of it's unoriginality, dishonesty, and many times superficial or artificial characters and situations. I have to say compared to what I have seen, No Reservations was very good. I'd watch it again and I can't say the same for any of crap that McConaughey craps out. If there is one thing I would change about No Reservations it's the side storyline of her sister's death. The little girl having to deal with not having her mom is very heavy material and dragged it down. I'm just saying it could've been a light hearted romantic comedy which is what it felt like in spots, then they'd show the little girl crying and you were back to a serious drama. Honestly, why must death be a mandatory element in a movie like this?

people who did not enjoy this movie would have enjoyed it more if thugs came in and shot up the place, raped the red-head after a long drawn out tortue scene and then shot in the head.

reply

Yes, the mix between heaviness and lightness wasn't balanced properly. I was being led to think that the little girl plot line was going to turn into "The Horse Whisperer" or something similar, when they never intended Zoe's problems to take on such a large part of the story. Fer crissakes, the film isn't about Zoe!

reply

I have to agree with previous posters saying the actors lacked chemistry together and the film being dull. I had to see it in little increments, I was just bored. And I like Aaron Eckhart, but what a wrong haircut.

reply

I really loved this movie and it doesn't get the credit it deserves. Great Score, Great Actors, Great Script =)

you mean its worse than that chihuahua movie??

you're pathetic

Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.

I thought it was one of the best. Very moving, relating to the death of someone that was loved and having to take care of their child, then the romantic part where she wont open up her heart but this man manages to get in. IT was truly a sweet and touching movie

reply

I don't care for this genre of movie, but I enjoyed this movie, very much.
The story was heartwarming, with the actors showing the quirks and flaws of the characters. The background music and song selection was excellent.

I am by no means a film critic, don't know much about the actors and was forced to watch this by my daughter, who also enjoyed the movie and recommended it.
Now I have just watched it again, by myself, and like it even more.

Different strokes for different folks, I reckon.

I guess it is a matter of tastes, this movie was awesome, period.

reply

Sorry, I agree, it was pretty bad. I am a fan of Aaron Eckhardt, Patricia Clarkson, Abigail Breslin, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, so naturally I really wanted to like this movie. But honestly, it's on now, and this is the 4th time I have caught it on cable, and I just have trouble getting through it to the end...and that is a pet peeve with me - I 'have' to see a movie's ending, I hate not viewing the entire film. I am STILL struggling with it. I actually want to get up and clean something instead of sitting here. Oh don't get me wrong, I'd rather watch it then some high priced action packed thriller or a slasher movie, but it's dull. Plain and simple. I expected much, much more.

reply

I'm not a huge fan of the lead actors, but they put in decent performances here. Actually what surprised me about this movie is that it did somewhat capture the mood of what it is like behind the scenes of an upper crust restaurant. I've known many folks that have worked a wide variety of jobs in that particular industry and the entire vibe was pretty accurate (the woman practicing her lines in the freezer was hilarious, that really happens pretty frequently!). So I guess your own arrogant ignorance was probably the source of your boredom. Good luck with that.

Buy the DVD of MOSTLY MARTHA and forget about this Hollywood rip-off.

Worst in a long time is a serious exaggeration imo, but the movie wasn't very good either. The main problem for me wasn't Eckhart nor the little girl, but CZJ.

She was completely miscast in this as her character exuded about as much charisma as a wet kitchen towel. She was supposed to be a quirky loner, an obsessive-perfectionist, but also very talented, chef, yet instead she came across as an annoying nag who showed very little connection to her niece. And as a result it seemed almost strange that someone like Eckharts character would even want to work for her, let alone hook up.

Imagine the difference if a young Meg Ryan, Marisa Tomei, Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock, ... would have played the lead instead of ice queen CZJ.

I agree, she was definitely miscast.
