Worth the trip

I came over to Belgium from England especially to see "Windkracht 10 - Koksijde Rescue" as was not disappointed. Excellent scenario, wonderful photography - particularly aerial shots and those of the helicopters. The film concentrates on the 2 main characters, Alex Breynaert (Veerle Baetens) and Rick Symons (Kevin Janssens) and their relationship with each other.

As to it's likeness to the VRT television series - the film is set in the current time (2006) so the actors who were in the TV series and in the film have aged correctly - particularly Flight Commander Mark Van Houte (Koen de Bouw) who has 'matured' to the responsible senior officer you would expect.

There are some other actors in the film who were in the TV series (Ludo Busschots, Vic De Wachter and Warre Borgmans) but it was a shame not to see Andrea Croonenberghs or Hilde Heijnen (Big fan!) in the film.

Obviously, the interior set used for the film is different to the TV series (?? the real Koksijde air base buildings ??) But all in all a good reproduction. There are also similarities in the 'missions' during the film to those in the TV series.

The only criticism I would make is that much of the film seems to have been shot with some sort of yellow filter giving some parts of the film a 'gloomy' feel.

I look forward to the DVD!

Good of you to come over just to watch that movie.
So, you're Belgian but you live in England?
That seems nice.

I am going to see it in a few weeks, is it as good as the TV-series?

reply

No, I'm not Belgian but I do like Belgian films and I'm sure it will never be shown in the UK. (It also improves my Dutch!)

reply

That's very nice to know, that people outside Belgium like our movies :-)

Is your dutch good? Have you learned it all by yourself, or do you have relatives here?

reply

Really? Come on, did you come over to Belgium to see this piece of crap?

reply

I read the critics but I don't agree. i saw it yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. The ending is bit lame and predictable, but all in all, we should be proud of this production. It's better than most productions that come from Hollywood

reply

More then half of the Hollywood productions are worse than this.

'More then half of the Hollywood productions are worse than this.'

That's something I really can't imagine.
