I like this movie enough but JJ is just downright awful. She is a total bitch to her mother & almost seems like she gets her jollies from hurting her. Yes, the mother is a bit of a flake but she's not nearly as bad as JJ makes her out to be.
shareHer mother left her and failed to show up to something that was important to JJ right after her father died. Later in the movie we find out that Lee just drank on the cruise ship in the room that night. I'd be hurt if my mom just disappeared and didn't support me after my father died. I understand her frustration in the beginning.
shareYou obviously weren't hearing anything. JJ was let down by her mother from a very early age. I think she had every right to be angry at her mother. It was the mother that was awful, controlling and inviting herself along to everything. this was a woman who had abandoned her own daughter when she was a young so she could go and sing on cruise ships and you think the JJ is the "awful one" are you kidding?? JJ was very close to her late father (the one who raised her) when her mother went off galavanting around the world. she said her mother only ever came back when she was down on he luck. Why is it JJ's fault? se was only a child when her mother left. yet she's the "bitch"? If I were her I think I would be more than just a bit bitter. She's lucky her daughter let her through the front door.
