What about the beginning? It doesn't add up.

Just watched this movie. Fascinating. I have seen Triangle also and have debated it to death (though a long timen ago).

In contrast to Triangle we know thatr this loop must have had a beginning, since the scientist talks about them agreeing on this experiment. But how can this be? The first time Hector gets send back to the past there would not be a first bandaged Hector to stab him in the arm. And so it would not make sense for Hector 1 to recreate this stabbing in the following loop cycle. In other words: this loop cannot have a beginning without the alterations being different.

Another problem is that when Hector sees himself coming home, this Hector at home is ALREADY send back in time since we have witnessed the beginning of the loop from this point forward. This means that when Hector sees himself for the first time there already have to be 3 Hectors around.

Also, when one goes back in time 1 hour, this would mean that from that first moment every next hour a new Hector would be "born." Eventually this would mean alot of Hectors.

Still thinking about it, but something does not add up, though the loop cycles are cleverly done.

Timecrimes is a predestination paradox/fixed timeline story, Hector never changes anything when he travels (twice) to the past. Technically, the "beginning" of the loop is the scientist turning on the time machine, because no Hector(s) can appear from the future is the machine is turned off.

Just a few seconds after turning on the machine, Hector 3 appears and gives instructions to the scientist to lie to Hector 2, who emerges from the machine shortly afterwards. They don't "agree on the experiment" - Hector 3 manipulates the scientist, the scientist manipulates Hector 2, Hector 2 becomes Hector 3 and manipulates the scientist, etc.

There are no previous timelines we don't see, only one timeline. Hector 2 and 3 are already there when Hector comes back home at the beginning of the movie.

"You're not thinking 4th dimensionally!"
