Bad subtitles

This was an impressive movie about the emptiness of human existence that cannot be 'filled' by anything, including food, which is a pervasive motif throughout the film.

I thought 'Malos habitos' was brilliantly done, but the subtitles made me howl with frustration. Simply put, I had difficulty reading them at periodic points throughout the film (and in the important 'extras' on the DVD). White-on-white subtitles just don't work.

This kind of lousy subtitling was common in the '80s and '90s, but it should not happen in these days of super-duper technology. It seriously hampered my enjoyment of this otherwise most commendable, albeit very dark -- both literally and philosophically -- film. The screen is bathed in darkness and shadow (and unending rain) throughout the film. I think that was appropriate given the movie's principal themes.
