Would love to see it (with English subtitles)

The subject matter of this film sounds interesting. Too bad it seems so hard to track down. I'd love to see it -- that is, if it's ever available in a subtitled version.

I'd also endure a dubbed version -- but under protest. :)

If not a DVD, I wonder if it's viewable online, in a video-on-demand form?

it has not even been out in Mexico yet, it will very soon in September I think...

I´m very sure this will get American distribution with subtitles, simply because I think this will be Mexico´s oscar contender, besides the film has been supported by Guillermo Arriaga, Salma Hayek, Rodrigo Prieto & Alfonso Cuaron.

It played at the CineVegas Film Festival with English subtitles. So I wouldn't worry about dubbing.

reply

So did you see it there? How was it?

reply

I did. It was very good. Very similar in style to Alejandro González Iñárritu's films (Babel, 21 Grams) with its parallel-themed plots joined by deft character connections. 8/10 (I rarely give out 10s).

I saw the movie last week, I think its great and its very different from all the movies on theaters today, the theme its something that can happen in our lives and that we have been close to.
The Art Direction and Photography are amazing and the movie is not the classic mexican movie with a lot of bad words and lots of violence.
I recommend this movie to everyone!

just saw it at the vancouver international film fest. not bad, but highly overrated. good acting & interesting characters but it is very repetitive. by the end of the film it feels like you've watched the same scene over and over again

reply

I watched the movie last night. Its an interesting concept but I didnt like the movie...it looked more like a slow tv commercial than a movie with real dialogue...I wouldnt recommend it to anyone

Thanks

There's a few there to choose from. I got my copy at Wal-Mart [the same one that's listed a little over $9.00].

Commercial?...
I saw this movie as part of the "nat-filmfestival" in Copenhagen. I can say it was voted in as second place in the critics jury with me in it.
Bad Habits is probably one of the most beautiful movies dealing with what the title is about...Bad habits.
Great to see that the next line of mexican directors are contributing with great movies. The themes of the movies were well integrated with the rainy scenes. That is probably what lifts the movie up to a higher level.
If this movie is a commercial...then its a darn beautiful commercial against the psychological disorders people may suffer from

Thanks for your comment Andy. You just have reinforced my belief that mexican cinema is better appreciated outside the mexican borders (especially in Europe) than in México.
recently lots of new filmmakers have directed their first or second film. Many of them have been recognized around the world because of the quality of their works; from Berlin, Cannes to Toronto, Sundance, etc. Sadly in Mexico certain groups still have this stupid idea: For them any mexican film MUST be a BAD film just because it is a mexican film. In the other hand, for these people, Hollywood flicks MUST be ALWAYS better. I don't have to explain you how flawed is that logic, I guess.
Something similar to some extent happens in Brazil. Local people prefers Hollywood movies and relegates to a second place their own cinema. But then you have most critics agreeing on the fact that Mexico and Brazil have produced some of the most interesting films from the last 10 years (Roger Ebert and Peter Travers among others).
It's not only Amores perros and City of God. Even smaller productions like Malos hábitos (Bad habits) or A Casa de Alice (Alice's House).

Cheerios.

I caught this movie subtitled at a festival in Las Vegas, and at the end everybody stood applauding. Well worth it.
