The Location

I gave this film a generous five. I actually managed to watch it all the way through, probably because I was intrigued with the main location, not with the rather thin plot. The location as expected is a disused holiday camp, you can see a few pictures of it at:

http://www.postcardnostalgia.co.uk/north_wales/prestatyn/prestatyn_holiday_camp.htm It was called variations on "Tower Beach Holiday Camp Prestatyn".

Anyway, the film, as somebody else has said, is yet another zombie film. I thought the worst aspect of it was the attempted Americanisation of the film, using language alien to most Brits, sadly the only example I can remember is one of them saying, "Rest Up", actually meaning "Have a Kip".

The more I think of it, I'll downgrade my score to three.

reply

Yes mate..... you go and downgrade your score. Then go and look at more pictures of holiday camps.

Maybe you would enjoy 'Holiday On The Buses' more. (It used the same location as this film.) Or other films with holiday camps in..........

Anyway, 'Rest Up' now.

reply

Yes I saw that the location was used in On The Buses too, it's not exactly difficult to use IMDB. It's been used in a few TV programs over the years, more than once in a "Virus nearly wipes out mankind" theme.

As for on the buses, I'm afraid that would get a one out of ten, sorry to disappoint you..

If you never get curious about the facts/locations/actors etc etc in a film then you must have a rather shallow mind, but that's hardly surprising seeing as your attention to this notice board on this film verges on the obsessive.

Take care Netchimp, at least you amuse me, if nobody else. No doubt one of your other IDs will comment next, I look forward to it.

reply

Yes, me and my shallow mind....... why am I not more interested in where Infestation was filmed?????

Still, another function that's easy to use is your dvd remote. Turning on the commentary on this dvd (or indeed reading the other forum posts on this page) will inform you that this film was shot before a whole host of other virus films. Rather than being 'yet another' virus movie.

Also the character who said 'Rest Up' was an American character. With an American accent. From America.

reply

Wow, I'm impressed at the detail about the "rest up" bit. I remember Loki came out with at least one Americanism .... I think.

I didn't watch it on DVD, it was recently on one of those many free to air film channels on Astra, something like Zone Horror. I think one or more TV dramas from the 70's, 80's or 90's were set at the same location, if so they would all predate this film, but I can't remember their titles. There's a challenge for you to research!

Are you sure the character was American? As far as I can tell without the DVD, they're all Brits, which character said it? Could the actor be as "American" as Hugh Laurie is in the American TV series called "House"?

Just remembered, in one of the first interior shots of the holiday camp I spotted what looked like a postcard display stand, on it's side, probably one of the few remaining relics of the building's happier days.

www.britmovie.co.uk doesn't even include this film.

STOP PRESS!!

I've copied this from a review on www.amazon.co.uk by C.W. Evans, if it's true, it's enlightening. to say the least....

"The director is one of my Tutors at College, but sure it looks rather bad but it was all shot on a normal hand cam that any one can buy they only had a budget of £5000 and the actors were not paid the main cast were directors friends and alot of the zombie extras were played by students, sure it was rather pants but the way I see it all directors have to start somewhere don't they I myself found that it was quite funny in parts but still I think he did very well for someone who only had a budget of £5000"

So you see Netchimp, a bit of curiousity can be educational as well as amusing

Regards, Ian

Although not mentioned on imdb, part of the tv series 'The Last Train' was shot there.

And yes this did pre-date Infestation. However my comments were directed at the plot rather than the location, which I was aware had been used before.

But don't bother trying to look for it. It's a housing estate now. Boo.

Also the Parys mountain location was used in Mortal Combat 2 a bit I think.

If that review is true then my respect for the film just went up.

reply

Yep, I saw 'The Last Train' but wouldn't have guessed it was as long ago as 1999.

I did the quiz on moviemapnorthwales. I got 2, which is less than random guesses would be. Pretty shameful considering I've spent a lot of time in North Wales and even have relatives there.

I didn't know it was a housing estate now but it makes sense. I presume it was considered a 'brown site' and I wonder if they had to clear up the toxic waste of a zombie infestation and unknown vehicle emissions?

I can't comment on Mortal Combat 2, no idea if it's a film or a game.

Likewise, I agree about increased respect for "Infestation", I'll toddle off and change my rating again.

Respect, Gimme Five, Yo Bro :)
