This was originally named "The Covenant" with the subtitle of "The Brotherhood of Evil." They didn't sue because it wasn't ever officially named "The Covenant 2," that must just have been an error on the part of IMDb. Although it is terribly misleading apparently two movies can come out in the same year with the same name, and if that weren't the case this movie isn't worth suing over. That is of course unless you actually watched it, then you should sue to get whatever money you paid to watch it back (including Sony, god help them if a curious employee actually dropped money on the DVD). It is weird that its named "Canes" because it was never called that in America. I know from experience as I watched this movie by being fooled, as you pointed out.
It was called "The Covenant" and I thought it was the entertaining sci-fi version that came out ONLY A MONTH BEFORE THIS ONE. This was of course back in the days of Blockbuster where such a mistake could be made by only using the naked eye. Against better judgement I watched it when I got home, mostly because at the time the "real" "The Covenant" wasn't out yet and I had spent the money. I don't know why it is listed as "French" as this movie was entirely in English and I'm sure Edward Furlong or much of the cast doesn't know any more French than I (zero). This is just another garbage movie Edward Furlong is in, apparently that's all he's been doing since Detroit Rock City (and rehab).
