Kal's accent

How is it possible that a guy like Kal can't keep the sterotypical Indian accent solid the whole movie. He kept lapsing into his normal "midwest" accent.

That's because he was born & raised in US. Albeit having Indian parents, it doesn't really equate him into delivering a fluid Indian accent. Trying to fake an accent is not as easy as it sounds. There are a few actors who might have mastered that technique but Kal is definitely not one of them.

I think you are being cruel! I just watched the film, and Kal does an amazing job with the accent. Though his real voice comes through from time to time, oh well! Actors faking American accents do it as well. Rachael Taylor's Australian accent came through quite a bit in Shutter, and Naomi Watt's also in The Ring films. It happens, but Kal did a great job, very realistic sounding.

I completely agree. I saw the first Van Wilder on Comedy Central last night, and his Indian accent was much, much heavier, almost a caricature (and I heard very little Midwestern if any). The "Rise of Taj" was on tonight, and Kal's accent was the first thing I noticed.

Taj obviously became "Americanized" at the American university between movies.

it was the first thing i noticed too. i actually was gonna make a post about it if there wasnt one. at first i just thought he did a really bad job faking the accent. wasnt till someone said a couple of posts ago that i considered it might have been intentional to suggest that his accent changed after being in school in america the last few years. i guess thats possible, havent seen the first one in a long time so i cant really remember what he sounded like.

just (7 years later) happened upon this movie, within 5 minutes i'm wondering is he doing this on purpose? is he playing a guy that "puts on" an indian accent? but no....apparently this mish mash was that best he could do.

no idea if the movie was any good. didn't watch more than 15 minutes of it, but i just had to come find the wtf was with his accent thread.

i knew there had to be one...
