What was this shot on?

I don't know much about filmmaking but seemed really bad visually? I just saw the trailer over at filmhype.net

I would say this shot with a video camera with the normal settings. I will explain more if you choose to read.

The technical specs on imdb say 1.66:1, as in aspect ratio, which typically means it was shot on super 16mm film even though you can achieve any aspect ratio through the editing phase. As a reference, to help you in case you don't know HDTV is 1.78:1, Hollywood films vary from 1.85:1 to 2.35:1.

It does not look like it was shot on film to me because the motion blur that comes from film speed (24 frames per second) is not evident. Plus, if you notice that everything in the image is relatively in focus, it is usually a give away of video though you can achieve this with a film camera, its rarely desired. I also have to note that most modern higher end video cameras have abilities to simulate a film look through certain settings. I believe these settings were not activated for this movie.

I don't have a lot of experience with 16mm, I've only shot two short films with it and my look came out more like the traditional 35mm look.

It looks like it was shot on the Panasonic HVX200, but I'm not sure.

hmmm, *guess* i can see how you could say that. but what i enjoyed most about the movie was its mood. some of the shots in here are really quite admirable. The composition, and the way they captured the light. really beautiful.
