When he called Sam Samantha after she had been bitten. It tore me up.

He loved her, his only friend.

Kay: Senators and presidents don't have men killed.
Michael: Oh, who's being naive, Kay?

That's one of the most heart-breaking scenes I've seen in a movie. It was almost as if his reality was tolerable, because of the companionship of the dog. And the way the dog died - because of his stupidity - was just terrible.

And the following scene, as he goes into the video store once again and asks the mannequin to say "hello" to him, then starts crying ... wow. It occurred to me he'd lost the ONLY real, live contact in his life; everything else is mannequins and pre-recorded TV. Magnified how completely alone he is.

reply

Me, too. I didn't expect the dog to be a female and it was a shock when he called the dog Samantha.

reply

That was sad just like when Old Yeller had to be shot.

reply

O_O OMG!! Old Yeller gets shot!!??

reply

Full sarcastic: And you realized this...?

Half sarcastic: He had the mannekin he was trying to bone.

Not sarcastic: Me too.

Those scenes were really good.

How the good dog stayed trying to wake him how, how she was able to beat 2 infected dogs and was so hurt, how he hugged her, and then had to kill her.

But after those scenes, the movie went on downhill. When he found the woman and the boy, and how he treated them, immediatelly I saw that there just wasn't space for Sam on the plot anymore. He had a dog friend, still he was lonely, and the dog had to go so the 2 humans could enter the plot.

I also didn't like a bit how offensive he was with them. Just a few conscious hours ago he was begging for a manequim to say hello to him. Then he tries to kill himself killing as many zombs as possible in the process. The she shows up, saves him and takes him home.

Why didn't he cry by sitting in a table with real humans? Why didn't he got happy with them talking to him? Why didn't he thank them for just for existing, if not for saving him and taking him home? No, he'd rather throw food away and yell on them.

reply

This is late but maybe because he was suspicious of them. He was being cautious.

reply

And he was on the radio everyday crying out for anyone.
