casting

Dagney Taggart should have been played by Natalie Dormer. Hank Rearden: Hugh Laurie. John Gault: Michael Fassbender. Eddie Willers: Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Jim Taggart: Guy Pierce. Richard Halley: Gabriel Byrne. Hugh Axton: Kenneth Branagh

To make a great book into a great movie, you need a great cast.

They simply did not have the funding to cast those high priced actors. But I really did like the casting for Dagny and Rearden. I would have kept them both.

Yup, I liked the film. It did a good job of adapting a rather HUGE novel, or at least the first 1/3. The train trip is a highlight, and I liked how the film ended. I would have ended it there, too.

The novel gets too preachy at times, especially an INSANE forever-and-ever speech near the end, but the film manages to touch on this topic lightly without going overboard.

There’s some intelligence in how the film was made. That’s seldom seen in today’s fantasy / superhero film environment. It was smart to split it up into 3 parts, too. I haven’t seen parts 2-3, but part 1 was decent. Read the novel first though, otherwise it may be puzzling to follow.
