Horrible little film....

I'm half-watching this movie on Channel4 right now. I started to watch it but found the characters entirely unlikeable, the premise unoriginal and the whole thing just kind of grim and unpleasant with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
I really can't believe crap like this gets funded.

I just found it unsatisying with the characters going off at tangents. The director didn't seem to have a clear idea as to where this was going.

i watched it on channel 4 last night also, i thought it was going to be real tosh, but i stuck with it amd i actually enjoyed it and thought somehow it held together despite the unusual pairing of dyer and anderson

I watched it too - very late for me on a school night. When it ended I wasn't sure what I'd just watched, but having slept on it... I think it was mainly crap.

1. Danny Dyer was woefully miscast. If the script had called for him to shout 'Ave it!' before kicking one of the rapists in the head, then maybe it could have worked.
2. The direction was very clumsy and the story far to clunky. Characters changed behaviour with all the subtlety of a clown fight.
3. The big revenge scene at the end arrived out of nowhere. I'd imagine that the director was hoping for Straw Dogs style shocks, but ended up with a laughable 'rifle butt' experience.

On the upside - Gillian Anderson looked mighty fine.

I sincerely hope a five-year-old wouldn't be allowed anywhere near a movie like this! And normally I hate to point out these things on messageboards but since you made a comment about the writing, I feel the need to tell you that it's "could have" not "could of".

The movie does indeed have some very poor dialogue. Apparently, there were a good number of people involved in re-drafting the script and the lack of consistency shows. If I were the writer/director, I'd be extremely annoyed that my original script (which I assume was half decent since it was granted funding) had been hacked to pieces in such a way.

i agree very unpleasant film. whos idea was the casting!? scully and dyer lol.
