What is considered scary by those who hated 1 MIssed Call?

Just curious.

I like to think that I have good taste in movies. I am not into the typical garbage summer blockbluster that only brainwashed morons get excited over. I really liked this movie though! Premise was dumb, but considering that they did a great job.

Don't even say the name of that movie.
I've tried to forget it, but I can't because its probably THE most horrifying movie I have ever witnessed.

reply

I'm sorry but REALLY? That movie blew.

Movies that seriously freaked me out: The Shining. Room 1408.

That's about it.

reply

Yes, I try also to forget it. It was so freaking bad movie!

reply

I haven't seen One Missed Call yet, but The Ring really scared me!

I liked the Descent and the Ring scared me to the point that I refused to sleep alone that night.

reply

See here's where people differ.

I thought The Ring was terrible. And The Descent only scared me until the monsters showed up, then it becamse stupid.

Unfortuantely, I'm only scared by things that pop out and go BOO! And this movie did have quite a few of those scares. The Grudge, The Ring, movies like that don't bother me much.

Pyschological thrillers scare me. Hannibal Lecter, Silence of the Lambs, Saw 1,2, and 3, and so on.

Not necessarily horror movies, but scary none the less.

P.S. I didn't hate One Missed Call, I just didn't like it. Hope my opinion still counts!

I thought Saw 2 especially was laughable for many reasons, but mostly stupidity. The Ring still scares me and I covered my eyes when the video played every time. I also find the Grudge disconcerting.

except after Saw 4.

Saw 4 is the second best of the series

Samantha-

Yeah people have their own definitions of what a scary movie is! There are a lot of movies that can startle me, with noises and things that can pop out and unexpected times. But I don't find all movies that can acheive that reaction in me scary. 1 Missed Call had those startle moments AND the scariness factor.

I also consider a movie scary when I get scared to be alone after watching it. Or like yesterday, when I was watching it I had to look away---they showed those monsters for too long.

The Others and the 6th sense are psychological thrillers that affected me for a few days.

The Grudge and The Ring stayed with me for about a week each.

I found that One Missed Call had the scares, but for me, I felt the tension building up to them were (IMO) a little cliche. lol

I agree whole heartedly. However () when they show the monsters for too long, I get used to them. Then they don't scare me anymore.

The Others and the 6th sense are psychological thrillers that affected me for a few days.

THOSE were the other two! I was wracking my brain trying to figure the titles out! XD Thanks!

Excellent way to sum it up. The Ring was ridiculous. The Grudge was WORSE. Don't get me started on Pulse. These movies are NOT SCARY they are just stupid cliche copies of eachother, its annoying. I want to be SCARED! The last movie I think that I can say scared the $H1T out of me was the remake of Hills Have Eyes. That movie had me like, on the edge of my seat.

All these *beep* teen PG13 horror movies are ruining what horror is all about. A movie that creeps me out that is not a horror movie is a film called, "The Deer Hunter." It is about Vietnam and how it effects three men (Deniro, Walken and this other dude)....it is just very un-nerving

Saw 1, 2, 3 and 4 are psychological thrillers? What the hell? More like torture porn. What about when 'Saw 8: The Revenge of Jigsaw' comes out, will you class that alongside Silence of the Lambs too?

Ironically, this isn't even ironic at all.

reply

And actually, the Saw movies are some intelligent psycological thrillers. Torture porn is not the word for those movies and you know it. They are completely intelligent throughout and even though it may lose its steam, at least its trying to be new and inventive.

reply

If by intelligent you mean dumb then I guess you're correct. Do you even realise how far-fetched and preposterous the Saw storylines are? Take a moment and have a think about what actually happens during one of those movies. It's so unbelievable and unrealistic that there's no way you feel for any of the characters, it's almost fantasy. It's just frustrates you until you realise it's a movie designed to put in as many torture scenes and gore as possible, and hence appeal to the torture porn fanatics out there (admittedly some who are yet to admit it).

Ironically, this isn't even ironic at all.

reply

That is your opinion. At least they are new and creative. They actually make you think and you are dumbfounded by thw twists because the whole thing was in front of you so you're bashing on the movie because you're frustrated that you didn't see it in the movie.

And The Ruins was absolutely better than the book. I can't believe people hated it for some reason. It's rated R for a reason: It needs a mature audience who don't laugh at the plot and serious scenes, with some great performances, by the way.

reply

I hated the remake... but the original Japanese 'One Missed Call' was scary. Loved it! ;]

reply

Whats scarier? Thats easy the X-files episode with the mutant homicidal inbreds episode that was banned for a while. Man was that a creepy episode, for awhile every time I heard slow 50's music I was creeped out.

reply

which episode is that

reply

Way late response but that episode is called "Home".

reply

So... I had to go watch that episode since I didn't remember it. I hadn't seen it before. Creepy... very creepy... and oh so wrong!

We may not enjoy living together, but dying together isn't going to solve anything.

reply

I thought One Missed Call was good. Acting was very average, lol, but it delivered reasonable scares and entertainment.
Horror/Thrillers to me are RARELY scary when watching them for the 2nd time. So i've split the movies i've found most scary into 2 categories:

1st time only Scary:
-The Strangers (the tension was intense the first time, the second time it felt almost boring)
-The Descent (the twist and scares were great the first time, but somehow after watching it again it became predictable and made me think 'y didnt i see that coming the first time?')
Notable others: The Hitcher (remake), Prom Night (remake), Halloween (remake), Pulse (remake), When a Stranger Calls (remake).

Scary after multiple views:
-I Know What You Did Last Summer- (scared my friends and I to death. Upon first watch, one of my friends had to leave the room 14 times....I didnt leave once but I was closing my eyes and blocking my ears. The scene with Helen Shivers still sends shivers down my spine)
-The Grudge (remake)- (terrorfied me when I first watched it, I've now seen it over 10 times and it still makes me cringe and jump at some parts)
-The Ruins (scariest movie i've ever seen. During the psychological parts where they were all freaking out with the vines inside some of them, I unintentionally cried. I just felt a tear run down my face..it was crazy. Still scares me to this day)

reply

high tension

reply

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (even the remake), the original Evil Dead, Wearwolf in London (the subway scene makes me *beep* my pants to this day), and anything Uwe Boll directs.

my thoughts > yours

reply

I did not like this remake one bit and i even tried to view it as a stand alone movie without making comparisons to the original but that seemed fairly imposable to do. Im not a huge hater of the idea of remaking, i just think the execution usually goes horribly wrong. Also, i was never a big fan of the first OMC. At best i would give it a 6.5 out of 10 and i added 1 - 1.5 points simply because Miike directed it.

Anywho....I dont get scared by many movies anymore, But i love Asian horror and i can give you a good list of quality horror / thriller movies.

To be honest, I found "Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater" to be deeply disturbing. On another note however, does anyone else find the only trivia fact that this movie has, the "director made sure not to watch the original and have his actors watch the original version of the film", to be quite... well... oxymoronic? They must have been high when tossing that idea around "Let's look up a scurry japanese horror movie, and then remake it, but here's the best part, were -not- going to watch the movie we are remaking until after we do it. So that way, we can find out how close the movies are to eachother" "whoa... thats a great idea bro *toke*"

reply

Yea.................... This director needs to never get work again
Just goes to show you though.
The company probably had an original japanese script and some extra money to toss around and some how found this *beep*
For never seeing it, its amazing close to the japanese version. The only parts missing are 30 minutes of explanations of whats going on.
Thats it, nothing huge.
